Match #56: England vs. Colombia (Round of 16)

Result: England 1-1 Colombia (England advances to quarterfinal)

Moneyline: Draw +220
Spread: Colombia +0.5 (-119)
Total: Push (2 goals)

It looked as if England were going to blow a prime opportunity to reach the quarterfinal but they ultimately prevailed after pressure-packed penalty kicks.

It was a chippy battle from the start with constant fouls, players embellishing and overall choppy play. After a scoreless first half, England received a penalty kick after Harry Kane was taken down on a corner kick. The importance of set pieces in creating goals in this World Cup continues to be massive.

Of course Kane converted, putting England up, 1-0. With Colombia needing a goal, they weren't even able to bring on James Rodriguez, who was nursing a calf injury.

It was hard to see where the goal would come from, but after a long-distance strike in stoppage time created a save and corner kick, Colombia had a sliver of a chance.

It was a crushing goal for anyone on the England moneyline or Under 2, and a dream for bettors on the draw.

Colombia had the upper hand in extra time but it stayed 1-1, sending the game to penalty kicks.

In PKs, Colombia held a 3-2 lead heading into their fourth kick but hit the post, opening the door for England to level things and they did. Jordan Pickford then made a save for England, giving Eric Dier the chance to win it.

The odds of England winning in PKs was listed at +900 before the match. It was the first time in four World Cup shootouts that England have advanced, and they'll face Sweden in the quarterfinal on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET.

Match #55: Sweden vs. Switzerland (Round of 16)

Result: Sweden 1-0 Switzerland (Sweden advances to quarterfinal)

Moneyline: Sweden +252
Spread: Sweden Pick 'Em (+127)
Total: Under 2 (-110)

Sweden were somewhat trendy underdogs (45% of bets) but they picked up a deserved victory, 1-0, over Switzerland to advance to the quarterfinal.

Here are the full highlights from an low-scoring yet eventful match:

At the very end of the match in the dying seconds of stoppage time, Sweden initially earned a PK with a chance to make it 2-0, but VAR overturned the decision to a free kick on the edge of the box.

The ensuing shot was saved and the game ended, 1-0, ruining (correctly) a chance for anyone holding tickets on the Sweden 2-0 scoreline, Over 2 (for a push), Over 1.5, any PK awarded (+160), among other prop bets.
