Fire vs. Tempo Preview
We're in for a battle between first-year expansion teams in this matchup, and both teams have found some early success in the 2026 season.
Brittney Sykes and Marina Mabrey are carrying an overwhelming amount of the scoring workload for Toronto. The two veteran guards are combining for 40.1 points per game for a middle-of-the-road offense that's posting 7.0 points per game. They're not all the Tempo has to offer, though.
Rookie guard Kiki Rice is averaging 11.3 points per game and putting the ball in the basket with ridiculous efficiency. The UCLA product is shooting 53.7% from the field and 52.9% from 3-point range. Her contributions could play a pivotal role against one of the WNBA's worst defenses.
Portland's defense is looking to find itself. It's giving up an abysmal 93.2 points per game, and only the Los Angeles Sparks have been worse in that department this season. However, the Fire have a fairly well-rounded offense.
Bridget Carleton highlights Portland's quartet of double-digit scorers with a career-high 16.8 points per game. Like Carleton, Sug Sutton is on track to average more than 10.0 points per game for the first time in her career, while reestablishing herself as a legitimate primary distributor.
The Fire don't quite have the same star power with Carla Leite and Sarah Ashlee Barker rounding out their list of top-four scorers, but you could argue they have better offensive depth.

Fire vs. Tempo Prediction
Terrible defensive teams often struggle to cover the spread, and that's the case for Portland.
The Fire are tied with the Sparks for the worst record against the spread (1-4) this season. Meanwhile, the Tempo are one of the league's best early in 2026.
Toronto is tied for the league lead with four wins against the spread. Its turnaround on offense after posting just 65 points in its season opener has been a major catalyst for its improvement.
The Tempo's scoring average of 91.4 points over their previous five games places them in elite company.
Sykes and Mabrey are used to leading roles and can power the favorites to another win against the spread at home. The Fire haven't proven they have enough defensive resilience to keep up.
Best Bet: Tempo -4.5 (-105, DraftKings)
