Golden Globe Best Director Odds, Predictions
Odds are via Kalshi and update every hour.
Paul Thomas Anderson Odds
A veteran of the silver screen, Paul Thomas Anderson has earned a Golden Globe nomination for his landmark film One Battle After Another, which features Leonardo DiCaprio as a former far-left revolutionary who is sprung back into the field in order to save his daughter from Sean Penn's Steven J. Lockjaw.
The film earned 94% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, putting it up there with some of Anderson's best works, such as Licorice Pizza and Boogie Nights. Anderson was nominated for the Golden Globe award for Best Screenplay for Licorice Pizza in 2022, but failed to win. The biggest award win associated with one of his movies is Daniel Day-Lewis's Best Actor Academy Award win for 2007's There Will Be Blood.
Chloe Zhao Odds
A relative newcomer to the mainstream film world, Chloe Zhao is mostly known for her work on independent films, such as 2020's critically acclaimed Nomadland, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Director.
This year, the Golden Globes have nominated her for Best Director for her work on Hamnet, a film adaptation of a book of the same name, written about William Shakespeare's inspiration for his famous play Hamlet. Hamnet is the fourth feature film that Zhao has directed, joining a list that also includes Marvel's Eternals.
Ryan Coogler Odds
Ryan Coogler seemed like an early favorite for this award when his film Sinners was released on April 18, but has since fallen behind. The historical drama-vampire film mashup, headlined by star Michael B. Jordan, was Coogler's fifth feature film as director.
The Oakland, Calif. native rose to prominence with his work on the set of Creed in 2015, which he followed up with both Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the former of which also starred Jordan. In addition to his Best Director nomination, Coogler is also up for the Best Screenplay award for his work on the script of Sinners.
