Korea Betting Preview
For a Dominican club that ranked just third in the futures market prior to the start of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, I instantly laid two units on Albert Pujols’ bunch at +450 to win the nation’s first Classic since 2013.
While both the United States and Japan deserved some market respect given their recent successes in this event, the Dominican Republic lineup undoubtedly boasts the most talent in the lineup, along with an elite pitching staff.
The United States club is coming off a heartbreaking upset defeat to the Italians, further cementing my point that the Dominican Republic was insanely undervalued in the 2026 Classic futures market.
Pujols’ squad has ripped through all of its opponents in Pool D thus far, having prevailed in a nine-run victory over Nicaragua, and then “mercy-ruling” a Dutch team featuring several talented MLB stars hailing from Curaçao.
The Dominican Republic then took down Israel in another dominant showing with a 10-1 final score to improve to 3-0 in the Classic with a matchup versus a Ronald Acuña-led Venezuelan club to ultimately decide the winner in Pool D.
The Dominican Republic reigned supreme with a 7-5 victory behind a strong effort from Padres’ superstar Fernando Tatis Jr, who has hit a grand slam, followed by a three-run blast over his last two contests.
Upon improving to 4-0 in the 2026 Classic after Wednesday night’s victory, the Dominicans are set to square off with Korea, which finished in second place in Pool C, splitting its four contests with a 2-2 record.
Phillies lefty Cristopher Sanchez is set to take the bump for the Dominican Republic in Friday night’s Quarterfinal matchup, showing how much trust Puljols has in his ace despite a relatively rocky start versus Nicaragua to kick off the Classic.
Sanchez finished runner-up in last season’s NL Cy Young award race, posting an impressive 2.50 ERA with over 200 innings pitched.
If the left-hander is to get into any trouble early on, the Dominican Republic has a star-studded bullpen with a number of elite arms able to come in for relief. That said, I expect Sanchez to have minimal trouble in his second start of the 2026 WBC.

Dominican Republic Betting Preview
It was more of a rocky road for the Koreans on the way to the Quarterfinals, with three nations from Pool C splitting their four contests — ultimately leading to chaos, with teams in the Pool posting 2-2 records after the pool stages.
A tiebreaker was used to determine which of the three tied nations — Korea, Australia, or Chinese Taipei — would advance to the Quarterfinals as the second-ranked team from Pool C.
Thanks to its five-run victory over Australia on Monday, Korea prevailed in the run quotient tiebreaker, earning its spot in the Quarterfinals with the Dominican Republic lying in wait on Friday night.
For Korea, an upset victory over Pujols’ Dominican Republic club would be the nation’s first trip back to the WBC semifinals since losing to Japan in the 2009 Classic Finals. Korea is a 5-to-1 dog to take down the Dominicans on Friday night.
While the majority of Korea’s roster plays in the KBO League — the highest level of professional baseball in South Korea — several noteworthy names in its lineup also play in the MLB.
Former Padres’ second baseman Ha-seong Kim has made a big impact for the Korean club on its road to the 2026 Classic Quarterfinals. The now-Atlanta Brave has one homer and three RBI’s for Korea, and is a phenomenal defensive player.
Kim has shown massive versatility as an infielder, playing all over the diamond. His defensive prowess in the MLB earned him an NL Gold Glove Award in 2023. The Korean infielder is commonly renowned for his spectacular agility and natural instincts. He is an elite contact-hitter on both sides of the plate and is often praised for his phenomenal base-running ability.
Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee has made a big impact for Team Korea as well, having recorded two RBIs in the 2026 Classic thus far.
The South Korean pitching staff boasts MLB talent as well, including longtime Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays starter Hyun-Jin Ryu, who has pitched very well in his first WBC since 2009.
Newly-acquired Seattle Mariners starter Dane Dunning is another surprising name in South Korea’s bullpen. The former Texas Ranger was a first-round draft pick for the Nationals in 2016.
While the Koreans have yet to announce who is to take the mound in their Friday night Quarterfinal matchup with the Dominican Republic, there has been much speculation that now-KBO Ace Hyun Jin Ryu is first in line, given his prior experience facing the likes of Tatis, Juan Soto, and several other Dominican players.

Korea vs Dominican Republic World Baseball Classic Picks
I am more than pleased holding a +450 Dominican Republic futures ticket heading into its Quarterfinal matchup on Friday night, as Pujols’ club is -800 to advance to the Semifinals.
I still see value on the Dominican side laying a couple of runs in Friday’s contest.
While Korea’s lineup certainly has talent, they meet a star-studded Dominican Republic bunch demolishing each opponent put in front of them.
I feel comfortable backing the Dominican Republic to cover its runline in what I expect to be a one-sided rout in Friday night’s WBC quarterfinal clash.
Pick: Dominican Republic -4.5
