Orioles vs Blue Jays MLB Betting Preview
By Derek Carty
I am not buying into any sort of resurgence for Max Scherzer. I look at THE BATcast stuff model, and his pitch quality has still been pretty bad over his last couple of starts. This isn't the dominant Max Scherzer everyone knew a few years back — he’s frankly become one of the weaker starting pitchers in baseball. THE BAT X currently projects his true-talent ERA north of 5.00 going forward.
On the other hand, I have Orioles' Jackson Holliday to get the start and bats leadoff against virtually every right-handed pitcher these days, giving him a prime platoon advantage tonight against Scherzer. Scherzer’s biggest flaw has always been yielding fly balls and giving up long balls to left-handed hitters — an issue that only gets worse as his overall effectiveness declines.
Scherzer coughed up nine home runs over his first six starts of the season. While he’s only given up four over his last seven starts — including a flukey seven-inning, 10-strikeout shutout — regression is bound to hit him hard.
At current market pricing, Jackson Holliday To Hit A Home Run (+950 at Fanatics) offers top-tier value on the board. You can also find +850 at DraftKings and Caesars, and I like taking this prop all the way down to +775.
Pick: Jackson Holliday 1+ Home Run
