Collin Whitchurch’s Twins vs Orioles Preview
Bailey Ober has always been a model of control.
He walked three batters on Opening Day and another two in his second start against the Astros. He has nine walks in total on the season, which means he's walked just four in the six starts since.
This is not an anomaly.
Ober's success is predicated on living in the zone. While his strikeout rate has dipped this year, his walk rate remains sterling and is down from the solid figures he posted over the past two seasons.
That's unsurprising, as he’s posted a career-best 54.2% zone rate.
Meanwhile, Baltimore’s offense is among the most swing-happy in baseball. The Orioles walk 7.8% of the time against right-handed pitching, the sixth-lowest total among MLB lineups. Only three regulars — Adley Rutschman, Ryan O’Hearn, and Cedric Mullins — sport walk rates north of 8% against righties.
Ober should continue to avoid the free passes on Wednesday in an excellent matchup.
Pick: Bailey Ober Under 1.5 Walks (-180, DraftKings)
