Blue Jays vs Phillies Predictions, Parlay, Picks
Story: Runs to Come at a Premium on Friday Night in Philly
The Phillies are set to host the Blue Jays on Friday night in the first of a three-game interleague set at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
36-year-old right-hander Zack Wheeler will make the start for the Phillies, while former Angels righty Jose Soriano will take the mound for the Blue Jays in his first-ever start in a Toronto uniform after having just been moved from Los Angeles at the deadline.
Below, I will break down Friday night’s interleague clash and further provide a “same-game-parlay” (SGP) betting angle that you can take when wagering on the action
Leg 1: No Runs in First Inning (NRFI)
For the first leg of our SGP for Friday night, I favor backing that there will be no runs scored in the first inning (NRFI) of this contest.
In 22 outings on the mound in 2026, Soriano has been phenomenal, with the 27-year-old Dominican having recorded a 3.29 ERA across his 123 frames on the mound, ranking 17th amongst starters.
The Jays’ right-hander has been quite efficient on the bump as well, with Soriano currently posting a 1.25 WHIP entering his first start with Toronto.
The Phillies’ Wheeler has been exceptional in 2026 as well, with the righty vet having recorded a very impressive 2.49 ERA to go along with a 0.91 WHIP throughout his 105 innings pitched this season.
Given that both starting pitchers in Friday’s matchup are in remarkable form over the course of their respective 2026 campaigns thus far, I expect this ‘NRFI’ prop to build a solid foundation for the rest of our SGP.
Luis Arraez Over 0.5 Singles
If you have read any of my previous SGP segments in either college basketball or baseball, you would know that I typically prefer pairing two negatively correlated wagers, given that the inverse relationship between the two, in turn, results in an odds magnification for your parlay.
That said, I will be looking to back a player from Friday night’s matchup to find success at the plate, which should complement our ‘NRFI’ bet quite nicely by offering us some increased value on the back end due to the aforementioned inverse relationship between the two parlay legs.
In this case, I expect newly-acquired Phils’ 2B Luis Arraez to come up clutch at the plate given his previous success versus Soriano across their previous encounters with one another.
In nine career at-bats versus the Jays’ right-hander, the former Giant has recorded an impressive four hits — one of which was for extra bases.
The 29-year-old lefty is having himself a phenomenal 2026 campaign, with Arraez entering this contest with a phenomenal .325 AVG, which ranks second in all of baseball, solely trailing Astros’ slugger Yordan Alvarez.
Arraez ranks in the highest percentile in avoiding strikeouts and thrives by putting the ball in play, which is evident through his exceptional efficiency metrics at the plate over the last several years.
Due to Soriano’s heavy reliance on inducing ground balls through soft contact as opposed to overpowering velocity on the mound, it’s not surprising that the newly acquired Phillie has found success versus the Jays’ righty given his high-contact rates at the plate.
That said, I feel great backing Arraez to record a single as the second leg of our SGP for Friday night, given his soft-contact style frequently results in reaching safely via base-knocks.
