Davidson vs Kansas College Basketball Betting Preview

Davidson Basketball

Davidson comes in with an 8-3 record, but it's a bit of a question mark. The Wildcats don’t have a marquee win, and outside of a home loss to Saint Mary’s, their defeats have been detrimental to their overall resume.

They'll get a chance to flex their muscle at the 3-point line. They hit the 3 at a 38% clip, with their seven-best scorers all making at least 33% of their attempts.

For as good of a shooting team as it is, Davidson only hits 66.3% of its free throws. That's troublesome considering that it ranks in the top third when it comes to getting to the charity stripe.

The Wildcats are facing a huge talent gap in this game, but the overall metrics might favor them on the spread.

The Wildcats play a slow, controlled game, and if they can withstand an early onslaught from the home crowd in Lawrence, this game could be closer than expected.

Kansas Basketball

Bill Self is in his 23rd season at Kansas, and this season will take his best effort to make a postseason run.

The Jayhawks have a decent starting five, led by their leading scorer, Flory Bidunga, and their emotional leader, Melvin Council Jr.

Their trouble starts with their depth, and it’s more of an issue now since Darryn Peterson was injured (again) in the last game.

Their bench provides minutes and energy, but they lack consistency in the scoring department. No player who comes off the bench averages more than five points per game.

The Jayhawks rank seventh in adjusted defensive efficiency, a strength that will make shooting for Davidson extremely difficult.

The Jayhawks hold teams to the lowest 3-point percentage in the nation, with opponents shooting just 24.1% from deep.

They're very efficient when it comes to turnover margin, with just 15.6% of their offensive possessions resulting in a turnover. While they limit their turnovers, they don’t create a ton of their own, so that metric is a bit of a wash.

This team's depth will continue to be an issue, but luckily for Kansas, Davidson isn’t necessarily a deep team either.

Davidson vs. Kansas Betting Analysis

Overall, depth will be an issue for both teams, but this game’s spread will be won and lost from beyond the arc.

While the Kansas defense has been good against the 3, the Wildcats predicate their offense on treys.

That being said, the Wildcats hunt out the opportunities for 3-point attempts, and they shoot it well enough for this large of a spread to be questionable.

There won’t be much room for error, so I won’t take Davidson on any spread lower than 16.5.

My Pick: Davidson +18 (Play to +16.5)
