Jackson State vs Louisville College Basketball Betting Preview

Jackson State Basketball

Jackson State was outclassed and outmatched on Monday night against Illinois as the Tigers surrendered 113 points on a whopping 1.49 points per possession. Illinois was able to get whatever it wanted at the rim and the Illini were electric while hitting 17 3-point shots.

The Tigers didn’t rebound well (they hardly rebounded at all!) and this game against the Cardinals will test their conditioning and defensive fortitude.

Early season pace is nothing new for Mo Williams and this Jackson State bunch. They're used to taking their lumps in the non-conference portion of the schedule, and the Tigers have shown a willingness to run with stronger teams and play with pace.

I fully expect this game to be a high-scoring track meet where defense is optional.

Louisville Basketball

I really liked what I saw from Louisville in the opener. We knew coming into the season that Pat Kelsey wanted to get up and down the court, and his pace-and-space offense was on full display on Monday.

Louisville averaged 12.3 seconds per possession and was extremely efficient while scoring 104 points in a game that played to 82 possessions.

Louisville’s first opponent, South Carolina State was at a major talent disadvantage, and we really saw the Cardinals take advantage at the rim. Louisville was 21-for-30 on shots inside the arc and got to the charity stripe for 33 free throw attempts.

Isaac McKneely was lights out from deep and this offense looked like what we envisioned it would when Kelsey arrived.

Jackson State vs. Louisville Betting Analysis

My best bet in this game is the over, which sits at 162.5.

Louisville is going to run with tempo almost exclusively for 40 minutes, and I expect Jackson State to be gassed on the defensive end quickly in this one.

Jackson State doesn't have the defensive aptitude to put the clamps on this style, and the Tigers struggle to defend without fouling. Illinois also had zero trouble breaking down their defense and penetrating the lane.

Louisville forced 25 turnovers in the opener and the Cardinals always seek to run out. I don't believe Jackson State will handle the pressure very well, so I would expect the turnovers to pile up.

Louisville should get whatever it wants in transition, and I would guess it has no trouble scoring on the move or early in the possession.

Jackson State isn't going to be able to defend without fouling, and I would expect Louisville to shoot 30 or more foul shots in this one. I also expect Jackson State to run out here with the Cardinals, and it should get to the line a fair amount in this one.

We should see 80 possessions or more, and Louisville’s press is going to cause issues for Jackson State. We saw Kelsey keep his foot on the gas with his group throughout in its season-opening blowout win, and even if the throttle is dialed back here, I think Louisville is quite capable of eclipsing 100 points for the second straight game.

Jackson State is going to launch half of its shots from deep, along with attacking at the rim. This should be an exciting, high-flying affair.

My Pick: Over 162.5 (Play to 165.5)
