Michigan Basketball
Michigan started the season with a 43-point win on its home court against Oakland. The Wolverines followed that up with two wins against Wake Forest and TCU by a combined five points.
They've since rattled off six more wins, with the closest margin of victory by 18 points in their last game against Villanova.
They won games by 30 or more against the likes of a highly-ranked Gonzaga team and a highly-ranked Auburn team.
One of their significant issues last season was depth. But this season, they’ve added some numbers and have a fair amount of length. They’re bigger and faster than most teams they play.
From a pure metric standpoint, Michigan will have advantages in most of the shooting statistics, both offensively and defensively, against Maryland.
Maryland Basketball
It’s a 19-point spread, and Maryland has been through a gauntlet of its own. This will be its fourth team ranked in the top 20, via KenPom, in its last five games.
Michigan presents real problems for a team that ranks among the highest in offensive blocked shots. That will force Maryland to take more perimeter shots, where it only knocks down a tick over 30% from deep.
What Maryland does well is getting to the free-throw line, but Michigan ranks 19th in limiting opponents' free throws.
This is a strength vs strength matchup, and based on the eye test, Michigan has all the advantages.
