Washington State vs USC College Basketball Betting Preview

Washington State Basketball

The Cougars are in very bad form, losing four straight games, scoring 64 or fewer in three straight games.

Their main struggles have been on the defensive side, ranked 295th or worse in both overall FG% and three-point percentage allowed.

A loss at home against Nevada might be a turning point they need, but I think the talent gap is too wide to overcome. The Cougars come in ranked 300th in D-1 experience, and while they own a tough strength of schedule, USC has had a tougher road so far.

The Cougars are 48th in size, USC is 6th. The athletic size of USC will be a lot to handle for the Cougars.

The Trojans bounced back after a loss on their home court to the Washington Huskies. Although they blew the cover late as San Diego closed the gap in the final minute.

While we thought balance was their strength, it’s more evident than ever that this roster is a bit too top-heavy without the likes of Rodney Rice. Outside of Chad Baker-Mazara and Ezra Ausar, averaging 17+ PPG, the rest of the supporting cast has largely underperformed.

But that hasn’t stopped them from going 9-1; and that’s been against a tough schedule. They are the 2nd-best team at getting to the free-throw line, and hit three pointers at a 39.2% clip.

Great news going against the Cougars who are ranked 346th in defensive three-point FG%.

The Trojans also play at a very fast tempo, ranked 48th in adjusted tempo. Something they’ll try and force Washington State to do.

Washington State vs. USC Betting Analysis

The biggest issue for this game will be the big spread. The Trojans already failed us last game, only winning by 13 after leading by 20 with 4 minutes to go in the game.

This spread will likely sit at around 17 points. We don’t wanna get into the habit of laying this many points, but overall we love USC to outpace the Cougars, and we should see a big margin in metrics in terms of overall field goal percentage.

USC leads by wide gap and adjusted offensive efficiency, but the gap is even bigger when it comes to defensive adjusted efficiency. The biggest struggles that Washington state has is their ability to dictate the pace and flow of the game. I expect USC to jump out to a big lead, a lead big enough that will make it difficult to Washington State to close the gap.

My Pick: USC -14.5 (Play to -19)
