Ohio was absolutely pillaged by the transfer portal. Ohio's secondary should be vulnerable as only 24% of their passes defensed return, but the Orange, with new weapons and a more dynamic play-calling approach under head coach Fran Brown and offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon, could take advantage. The Ohio secondary will most likely be dependent on a number of untested players, most of whom have limited game experience, including Mike Mack, who did not play last year, and Roman Parodie, who is moving into a starting role after limited action in previous seasons. Meanwhile, Syracuse has loaded up offensively, bringing on board Ohio State transfer quarterback Kyle McCord. McCord can also take extra comfort in targeting the elite talents such as tight end Oronde Gadsden II, who nearly reached 1,000 receiving yards in 2022, and speedster Justus Ross-Simmons from Colorado State. The Orange will be powerful on the ground, as projected, but still have an opportunity to take advantage of Ohio's weakened secondary through the air. While Ohio struggles to keep some of your key defensive players, Syracuse makes an infusion of talent and experience on offense; the Orange are really well-placed to dominate both phases of the game.
