Auburn vs Georgia College Football Preview
Auburn Tigers Betting Preview: Strong Defense Masks Spotty Offense
In Byrum Brown’s first season with Auburn, the former USF quarterback has been unable to recapture the success he had with the Bulls, averaging more than one interception per game.
Brown’s lack of production under center has handicapped Auburn’s ceiling. The offense ranks 86th in success rate, 77th in points per opportunity and 102nd in havoc allowed.
Fortunately for the Tigers, Brown has been able to mask his struggles through the air with his legs, leading the team in rushing yards while averaging 4.2 yards per carry.
When Brown is able to successfully ward off pressure, opposing defenses are vulnerable to being gashed while the second level is scrambled in coverage.
Running backs Jeremiah Cobb and Omar Mabson II have hit the ground running, as the Tigers' duo is averaging more than five yards per carry.
The combined production Auburn receives from this trio has elevated the offense to the top half of the board in rush success rate and PPA, keeping the Tigers competitive enough — uncomfortably so, for their opponents — on the scoreboard.
Auburn has fared far better on defense, entering Week 7 ranked above league average in defensive success rate and finishing drives.
Even though the defense is consistently spotted with poor field position due to the lack of production on offense, the Tigers are able to mask this disadvantage by holding opponents to early outs before they can get inside the red zone.
Georgia Bulldogs Betting Preview: Elite Top to Bottom
With continuity at every key position, Georgia has been dominating on offense, ranking in the top 10 in success rate and finishing drives.
Gunner Stockton’s efficiency in the pocket has played a major role in Georgia’s hot start to the year, with the quarterback completing 76.6% of his passes.
Like Brown, Stockton has also been able to find success on the ground this season, averaging 5.2 yards per carry. Stockton’s dual-threat abilities force opposing linebackers to spy on the outside, freeing up more space for the Bulldogs' pass catchers to exploit.
While the offense has thrived, Georgia has also been productive on defense, fielding a group that ranks near the top of the board in defensive success rate, points per opportunity, and havoc.
With both sides of the ball playing at an exceptionally high level, Georgia is able to reduce the amount of negative variance in the contest, improving the Bulldogs' probability of winning on a weekly basis.
With Georgia fresh off a win against Alabama, it’s tough to envision the Bulldogs falling hard back down to reality against Auburn, with the team getting the benefit of a bye the week after.
This helps Georgia avoid falling into a sandwich spot with Florida on deck, keeping the Bulldogs' motivation high as a sizable favorite.

Auburn vs Georgia Pick, Betting Analysis
Auburn’s struggles on offense are poised to persist so long as Brown fails to move the ball downfield.
Even with Brown capable of extending plays with his legs, the Bulldogs' ability to generate pressure with just the defensive line will allow them to anchor linebackers across the middle to help crash down on the Tigers quarterback before he's able to get to the open field.
Brown will be forced to air it out at a higher rate, leading to disastrous results while weaving the ball through a secondary that ranks eighth in defensive pass play success rate.
The Bulldogs' suffocating coverage will also increase the amount of havoc in Brown’s throws, giving the defense a great opportunity to flip the field position by creating a turnover.
Lost possessions will be detrimental to Auburn’s chances of staying within the number. Stockton’s running ability will stretch the Tigers' defense, making it difficult for them to stall the Bulldogs.
When Georgia is in scoring position, points have been near automatic — the Bulldogs average over five points per opportunity.
With clear advantages on both sides of the ball, back Georgia to cover the spread at the key number of 20.5.
If the number climbs past 28 by the time Kirby Smart sends in the second unit, place a smaller wager on the Tigers at longer odds than the initial wager, locking in a profit no matter which team covers, with the opportunity of middling both.
Pick: Georgia -20.5
