UAB Blazers Betting Preview

In typical Trent Dilfer fashion, he turned an extremely winnable game into a sweat last weekend.

The Blazers held on for a 52-42 victory over Alabama State.

The Blazers now face Navy, where they must contain the triple-option action.

The big concern here is that the Blazers allowed 42 points to an FCS school, allowing explosives left and right.

We all know Dilfer's big brain is bound to explode preparing for the triple-option.

It's also stunning — well, maybe not for a Dilfer-led team — that UAB’s opponent had terrible starting field position for most of the game, which suggests their defensive performance was even more embarrassing.

The Blazers are likely to struggle against a Navy offense this week.

Offensively, UAB had many positive metrics entering the matchup. The Blazers likely received a boost from facing an FCS opponent, but they also generated a ton of explosive plays.

Quarterback Jalen Kitna finished with a 78% completion rate and two touchdown passes, while running back Jevon Jackson also had a massive day, accumulating 166 rushing yards on 17 carries.

The offense should be able to piece together some points again, as long as it can avoid big mistakes.

The Blazers will need a lot of explosives on offense again, as Navy could easily control the clock for most of the game, playing keep-away.

Based on what we saw last week from UAB, that is entirely possible.

Navy Midshipmen Betting Preview

Navy dismantled VMI last week.

Quarterback Braxton Woodson ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries. The offense scored a total of six rushing touchdowns.

The offense should have another field day against UAB, which struggled against lowly Alabama State.

The offensive line should dominate UAB’s front seven, and I expect plenty more rush explosives. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see more passing, specifically from starter Blake Horvath.

I am a little worried about Navy’s defensive line, as the Midshipmen rank among the worst teams nationally in Defensive Line Yards. Despite the lopsided scoreboard, the Mids were pushed around in the trenches last week.

With that in mind, UAB could do some damage.

UAB vs Navy Pick, Betting Analysis

I will never lay over two touchdowns with a service academy, so I’d rather bet the Over.

I have no faith in the Blazers' defense, and I think it's very possible they will lose this game by 30 or more.

But if the game is a blowout, I still expect them to put up their fair share of points.

Both offenses should have plenty of explosives, and I think that will result in a ton of scoring.

Pick: Over 60 or Better
