The wait is almost over for the new Kern County casino.

Hard Rock International, in collaboration with the Tejon Indian Tribe, will open the highly anticipated Hard Rock Casino Tejon on November 13. Located 15 miles south of Bakersfield near Highway 99, the new casino is poised to become a major attraction on Tejon Indian Tribal land.

The casino will feature a 150,000-square-foot gaming floor, which will include over 2,000 slot machines and more than 50 live table games, including popular choices like blackjack and poker.

This privately funded project, valued at $600 million, has already contributed thousands of construction jobs. It is expected to create another 1,000 permanent roles once the Hard Rock casino in Tejon is operational.

Beyond job creation, the development is expected to stimulate local economic growth, increase tourism, and provide long-term benefits in community infrastructure and education—all without taxpayer expense.

There's no full-proof way to play, but using a basic blackjack strategy can help players, even professionals, improve their chances against the dealer.

Hard Rock Casino Tejon Developers Address Concerns

While the casino promises economic benefits, some residents worry about increased traffic and crime.

Positioned near Frazier Park and key highways, the casino might lead to more vehicle accidents and congestion, especially in hazardous winter conditions. Anticipated crime increases linked to resort casinos are also a worry, but plans are in place for a sheriff's substation to enhance safety, funded with millions over the next 20 years.

Environmentally, a comprehensive study by the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs found that the casino would have limited negative impacts. Concerns about water use, habitat protection, and waste management were evaluated, resulting in mitigation measures. Notably, infrastructure improvements funded privately aim to offset potential issues, especially in traffic.

The Tejon Indian Tribe and Hard Rock International have been active in community engagement, hosting sessions and outreach events to address concerns, and commit to hiring locally.

"We are incredibly proud to bring our iconic brand to Kern County and are thankful for our partnership with the Tejon Indian Tribe," said Jim Allen, chairman of Hard Rock International and CEO of Seminole Gaming. "Hard Rock Casino Tejon will set a new standard for entertainment in the region, blending our world-class hospitality with the tribe's inspiring vision for cultural and economic growth."

They have pledged support for local nonprofits and introduced programs to tackle gambling-related issues and domestic violence. Despite some ongoing worries, proactive measures and community involvement highlight efforts to mitigate the challenges of hosting this significant development.

Additional Attractions at Tejon Hard Rock Casino

In addition to the massive casino floor, there are special VIP rooms that will offer exclusive gaming experiences, including baccarat.

Food enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to as well. The casino will offer multiple dining options, including the renowned Hard Rock Cafe, as well as a Marketplace Food Hall with offerings that range from artisanal coffee to street tacos and Italian dishes.

Throughout the property, visitors will encounter an extensive collection of authentic music memorabilia, integrating Hard Rock’s global identity into the local scene. Guests can also join the Unity by Hard Rock loyalty program, offering special perks such as promotional openings and VIP privileges.

Casino Opening is Considered To Be a Historic Event

The casino’s opening is seen as a historic event for the Tejon Indian Tribe, marking a celebration of tribal heritage and resilience. It is slated to become a cultural and entertainment hub for Kern County and its neighboring regions.

Strategically placed at the base of the Grapevine Mountain Pass along Interstate 5, Hard Rock Casino Tejon is positioned to attract people from both Southern California and the Central Valley. It will be the second closest full-scale casino to Los Angeles, and the first major tribal casino in the area.

"Today marks a historic moment for the Tejon Indian Tribe and the entire Kern County community. The opening of Hard Rock Casino Tejon is not only a celebration of our Tribe's heritage and resilience but also a bold step forward in creating opportunity and prosperity for future generations," said Octavio Escobedo, III Chairman of the Tejon Tribe. "This project will bring thousands of jobs, fuel economic growth, and serve as a gathering place where culture, entertainment, and community come together. We are proud to share this milestone with our friends, neighbors, and partners who helped make this vision a reality," Escobedo said.
