Detroit went 60-22 last season as the East's top seed, and it kept the core together by locking up Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson on new deals. Boston looks very different. Brown is gone to Philadelphia, Paul George and Mitchell Robinson make their Celtics debuts on the road, and Devin Carter is out with an illness. Jayson Tatum's return from the Achilles tear he suffered in the 2025 playoffs is the reason Boston is a slight favorite, and I get it. Still, Detroit forced more turnovers than any team last season and held opponents to the third-lowest field goal percentage, and that's a tough first test for a rebuilt lineup. I'll take the more settled team at home at close to even money.
76ers vs. Knicks Odds and Lean

New York went 53-29, swept Philadelphia in the East semifinals and beat the Spurs 4-1 in the Finals. Most of that rotation is back, with Andre Drummond in for Robinson, and the Knicks have nobody on the injury report. Philadelphia signed LeBron and traded George to Boston for Brown, but the projected starting five of Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Brown, LeBron and Joel Embiid played together in just one preseason game. Anfernee Simons, Adem Bona and Dean Wade are questionable, and Tacko Fall, Ariel Hukporti, and Dominick Barlow are out, which leaves very little size behind Embiid. This line opened at Knicks -5.5 in August and has dropped to around -4.5 with most of the tickets on Philadelphia. I'll take the cheaper number with the champs on banner night.
Thunder vs. Spurs Odds and Lean

San Antonio won the West Finals with a 111-103 Game 7 in Oklahoma City and took eight of 12 meetings with the Thunder overall last season. Mitch Johnson is starting De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, Devin Vassell, and Victor Wembanyama, so Tobias Harris (calf) being out doesn't change much. Chet Holmgren came off the injury report after missing the preseason with a quad injury and is expected to play, but OKC traded Lu Dort, Isaiah Joe, and Aaron Wiggins this summer and is also without Nikola Topic, Thomas Sorber, and Otega Oweh. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the two-time reigning MVP, keeps the Thunder dangerous. Even so, OKC had the league's best defensive rating last season, and Wembanyama is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, so I expect a grind. I'm on the Spurs at home, and I'd grab -1.5 if your book has it, along with the Under.
