Packers vs Jets NFL Week 2 Preview
The Packers were incredibly unlucky losers last week against the Vikings. The game completely unraveled on them late with a failed 4th-and-1, bad penalties, and fluky turnovers, but Jordan Love actually played quite well, hitting several explosive plays downfield.
Historically, Love is an impressive 8-0 against the spread (ATS) on the road when laying over a field goal.
However, my biggest concern with this team is the trenches.
The Packers ranked last in pass block win rate in Week 1, and they are playing without Josh Jacobs to balance the offense.
Defensively, the front is really struggling, and they just have too many holes when playing without Micah Parsons to consistently generate organic pressure.
The Jets are a significantly improved, serious operation this season. They went out and loaded up on talent, and it showed last week in a convincing win over the Titans.
Offensive coordinator Frank Reich was deep in his schematic bag, utilizing 13-personnel on 18% of the Jets' snaps and even trotting out a wild formation with five tight ends on the field at once.
That type of heavy personnel helps neutralize an opposing pass rush, and it allows Geno Smith the time he needs to comfortably cook from the pocket.
The Jets' offensive line is more than capable of handling Green Bay's defensive front.
My only real hesitation with New York is a banged-up secondary that is missing Minkah Fitzpatrick and relying on guys like Brandon Stephens and Dane Belton to hold up against Christian Watson and Matthew Golden.
Packers vs Jets Prediction, Betting Analysis
I make the spread for this game exactly a field goal, so grabbing New York at +3 offers some value — but I like them to win this outright as a home 'dog.
The Packers are playing back-to-back road games to open the season, their offensive line is a liability in pass protection, and the Jets have the heavy-personnel scheme to dictate the tempo of this game.
I'll back the Jets to win this game and take a 2-0 start to the season.
Pick: Jets Moneyline (+160)
