Vikings vs Bears NFL Week 2 Preview
There's naturally going to be some trepidation when Carson Wentz steps in to start, but I actually think this is a favorable spot for the Vikings.
Once Wentz got acclimated last week against the Packers, he looked highly competent making the necessary throws. More importantly, he has had a full week of practice to gel with the starters in Kevin O'Connell's system.
Wentz is actually a much more natural fit for the Vikings' under-center, play-action-heavy offense than Kyler Murray, who clearly wasn't comfortable operating outside of the shotgun yet.
From a general trends perspective, Week 2 road underdogs catching between +1 and +6.5 points are an incredible 44-17 against the spread (ATS) over the last decade.
The Bears are feeling themselves after dropping 59 points last week, but the market is giving them way too much respect.
Teams coming off wins in which they scored 50-plus points are historically terrible against the spread, specifically sitting at 4-10 ATS since 2010 for teams who score 40+ and win by 20+ in Week 1.
Chicago's looked horrible on a down-to-down basis against the Panthers. The Bears just got bailed out by Bryce Young and some fluky turnovers (two lost fumbles for Carolina).
Offensively, Caleb Williams still holds some bad habits from his college days, constantly trying to extend plays in the pocket and go off-script.
That is going to be a problem against Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who blitzed at a staggering 83% rate last week.
Vikings vs Bears Prediction, Betting Analysis
There is simply no line value on Chicago right now.
The Bears defense is susceptible to getting carved up by Kevin O'Connell's heavy, multi-tight end looks, and Brian Flores is going to force Caleb Williams into making mistakes under heavy duress.
I'll back Minnesota keep this game inside the number.
Pick: Vikings +4.5 (-110)
