Colts vs Jaguars Preview, Prediction
This Jaguars team has essentially been on the road for a month and a half outside of one game — they have drastically different home-road splits.
The Colts are coming to town, and they never seem to win in Jacksonville.
Jacksonville tends to catch people off guard around this time of year because it's a whole different kind of climate environment.
At this point in the season, most teams are playing either in cold weather or inside of a dome, and then you go out to Jacksonville and it's a whole different game with high humidity and rain.
The Jaguars get WR Brian Thomas back for this game. It looks like Parker Washington is hurt, but they also have Brenton Strange back, which gives them an edge over the middle of the field and provides Trevor Lawrence with another option.
Lawrence has earned the trust of head coach Liam Coen. Even though he hasn't played well for most of the season, there have been decisions made in the quarterback’s favor.
The Jaguars added Jakobi Meyers, they got Strange back, and they're involving Bhayshul Tuten more in the run game. They aren't overdoing it with Tuten as well — they're still utilizing Travis Etienne, who has been pretty good as well.
The Jaguars offense should be able to score a serviceable amount of points against the Colts in this spot.
Colts vs Jaguars Predictions, Betting Analysis
If you look at the Jaguars-Colts matchup when played in Jacksonville historically, the Jags are 7-1 against the spread (ATS) going back to 2015, good for an 88% winning percentage and a 72% ROI.
The Jags offense is going to be fine here against the Colts. The Colts just lost Sauce Gardner again, their pressure isn't great, and the Jaguars likely have some positive regression coming their way.
Trevor Lawrence leads the NFL in dropped passes by his receivers, and that's bound to come down to earth. On the other side, the Jaguars have played solid defense much of the year.
Colts QB Daniel Jones is starting to come down to earth a bit as well, and the regression bug seems to have bitten Jonathan Taylor.
I trust this Jaguars' defense to get the job done here against Jones and Taylor. Generally, the Jags' defense has been good against bad quarterbacks.
I'm not going to call Jones a "bad" QB, but he’s definitely closer to the Sam Darnold range than he is the Matthew Stafford range.
There should be plenty of opportunities to fade teams like the Colts down the stretch.
Pick: Jaguars +1.5 (-110)
