Giants vs Raiders NFL Week 17 Preview

This Raiders may be a bad NFL team, but they’ve treated me pretty well this season.

Last week against the Texans, they should have won the game. At one point late in the game before the Texans’ final drive, the Raiders led in total yards 315 to 201, and the yards per play were 5.9 to 3.9. The Raiders were also hurt multiple times by poor pass interference calls.

There were things to like offensively for the Raiders, particularly in how they handled Geno Smith. On early downs, they focused on getting the ball out quickly, especially to tight ends in space.

The Raiders might have also found something with young guard Caleb Rogers, who played better last week. The interior offensive line did not allow a single pressure against the Texans, which is an impressive feat, even in a loss.

The offensive tackles are still an issue for the Raiders, and Kolton Miller still isn't ready to make his return. He would've been a significant upgrade over Stone Forsythe.

Raiders head coach Pete Carroll has never been the type to tank. NFL teams don’t tank on purpose, and players certainly don’t tank, though teams can sometimes sit players from a personnel standpoint. That’s not how Carroll operates.

The Giants currently field the worst run defense in the NFL. They cannot stop anyone on the ground. Kayvon Thibodeaux was the only edge defender capable of consistently defending the run, and he is now on injured reserve.

Raiders rookie running back Ashton Jeanty really got going last week, and this sets up as a spot where he could have another big game — and Brock Bowers should also have plus-matchups all over the field.

On the other side of the script, the Giants’ offense continues to struggle.

Jaxson Dart is not playing well and is running less than earlier in the season, which suggests he may have hit a rookie wall. Injuries are piling up across the roster.

Giants vs Raiders Prediction, Betting Analysis

The Raiders are not getting Kolton Miller back, but the Giants are still without Andrew Thomas, who was completely snubbed from the Pro Bowl despite being one of the two or three best left tackles in the NFL this season.

The Giants also have offensive line injuries to Jon Runyan and John Michael Schmitz. Without Thomas, it's likely this offensive line falls apart again.

I trust the Raiders' defense more than the Giants' defense. I believe Jeanty can get going, and the Raiders have better weapons overall.

Dart looks like he's starting to slow down a little bit, and this is a tough spot for him on the road.

At home, with matchup advantages on both sides of the ball, I think the Raiders get the job done.

Pick: Raiders -1.5 (-105)
