This may be a surprise to you (because it was to me): The Carolina Panthers currently have the NFL's top defense through Week 3 according to Football Outsiders' DVOA metric.

To be fair, Carolina has faced rookie Zach Wilson, Jameis Winston and another rookie in Davis Mills in its first three games this season.

Now, the Panthers defense takes a major step up in weight class with Dak Prescott and a potent Cowboys offense awaiting it in Dallas.

Those last two sentences above suggest that the Cowboys are primed to hang a big number on the Panthers, which isn't necessarily wrong either.

But let's look at this game from a more general and situational level.

We have "America's Team" on a short week while coming off a dominant performance in front of a nationally-televised audience on Monday Night Football.

Easy! Panthers and the points, right?
