Eagles vs Bills Week 17 Preview

The Bills will host the Eagles in a pivotal Week 17 matchup on Sunday afternoon, with Buffalo still needing some wins down the stretch in order to secure a playoff spot in the AFC.

Lane Johnson remains out for a sixth straight game for the Eagles while Jalen Carter is set to make his return after missing three games due to his shoulders.

The Eagles put up points against the Raiders and Commanders, but that alone does not erase larger concerns. There are some signs of improvement, particularly with Jalen Hurts using his legs more, which is important for this offense.

Still, until Philadelphia's offense shows consistent progress against a competent defense, there is reason for skepticism.

Buffalo’s defense is not elite, but it is disciplined. Expect the Bills to play plenty of zone coverage designed to limit explosive plays. Until the Eagles prove they can sustain offense in that type of environment, doubts remain.

This matchup ultimately comes down to trusting Josh Allen at home against an Eagles team that, despite recent flashes, still looks broken offensively.

Eagles vs Bills Prediction, Betting Analysis

From a matchup standpoint, the Eagles defend tight ends well and the Bills do not have dominant outside receivers to consistently exploit Philadelphia’s secondary.

Even so, this is still Josh Allen at home in a game Buffalo needs to win. That alone carries significant weight.

The Eagles are banged up, and even if a few key players return, and the overall situation suggests a difficult week for them.

Philadelphia is a team that can resurface at any moment despite a lackluster season thus far, which makes fading them uncomfortable. However, given their health status and the fact they already have the division locked up, this does not feel like a game where the Eagles need to go super hard.

But again, Allen at home is the central angle here, regardless of whether the Bills are listed as small favorites or underdogs.

With uncertainty around other games due to quarterback situations and injuries, backing Allen at home is the simplest and most reliable spot.

Historically, Allen has been one of the most profitable quarterbacks against the spread when favored or catching fewer than three points, and that trend matters in a spot like this.

Pick: Bills -1 (-110)
