France outplayed Morocco for a 2-0 victory in the second World Cup semifinal, setting up a thrilling Argentina vs. France World Cup Final.
Les Bleus are marginal favorites against La Abiceleste according to the opening odds from DraftKings, which has listed France at -120 to win the event and Argentina at +100.
Argentina's road to the World Cup final was not a straight one. La Abiceleste actually dropped their opening game of the tournament in shocking fashion, suffering the greatest individual upset (in terms of betting odds) the World Cup has ever seen. That match, against Saudi Arabia, proved to be a turning point for the squad.
They proceeded to beat Mexico and Poland, two goals to nil each, and earned the top spot in Group C. Argentina then handled Australia in the round of 16 before engaging in a thriller with the Netherlands.
Argentina got off to a great start in that fixture, earning a 2-0 lead before it all fell apart in the last part of the match. A last-gasp equalizer off a stunning free-kick earned extra time for the Netherlands. After an extra time period in which Argentina had quality chances but couldn't convert, a penalty shootout was required.
Goalkeeper Emilio Martinez proved to be the hero, as he propelled a composed Argentina squad into the semifinals. There, La Abiceleste dominated Croatia to the tune of a 3-0 win.
For France, things have been a bit more smooth. After conceding an opening goal to Australia in their first group match, Les Bleus proceeded to win that game 4-1 and a following fixture with Denmark 2-1.
A near dead-rubber match saw France lose to Tunisia, but when it mattered in the knockout stage they recovered well. Les Bleus beat Poland 3-1 before securing a blockbuster victory against England.
Their most recent victory against Morocco locked up the tantalizing final we have upon us.
Argentina and France will kick off at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday, December 18. They last met in the 2018 World Cup round of 16, when France won 4-3.
