Clubs in the midst of absolutely brutal stretches of play go at it Friday when Fulham hosts Wolves in a crucial Premier League match at Craven Cottage.

Fulham enters this game knee deep in a relegation battle that it simply can't get away from at the moment. The Cottagers, currently in 18th place, missed a golden opportunity to pull even on points with Newcastle United last time out when it blew a 1-0 lead against Aston Villa in the second half en route to a 3-1 defeat at Villa Park.

That debacle kept Fulham on 26 points and three adrift of safety. Obviously, every fixture from here on out is of utmost importance for the Cottagers' survival chances in England's top flight.

On the other side, things aren't much better for Wolves. The only difference — and it's a big one — is the fact they're well clear of any relegation danger, sitting in 14th place and nine points out of harm's way.

Let's take a look at these sides and find some value plays in this showdown.

Fulham

You know, it was a little more than a month ago that I hopped on board the Cottagers' express train to safety after its shocking win over Liverpool at Anfield. I thought for sure that signature victory was the one that would trigger a run down the stretch and keep them up next season.

However, it was back to reality for Fulham. Three ugly defeats later after that stunning triumph had me pulling the emergency break to get off that derailing train at the next stop.

Manager Scott Parker has to get his squad in order and do it fast. There are just seven games left on Fulham's plate, with three of them coming against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.  A win over Wolves would go a long way toward getting the club back on course, which could ultimately set up a winner-take-all affair against Newcastle on Decision Day.

Wolves

Much like its fellow combatant, Wolverhampton has been a hot mess as of late.   The visiting side has come away with just two points in its last five league affairs, securing single points in draws with Newcastle and Aston Villa.

However, despite the string of lackluster performances, Wolves has actually played well in its two most recent matches — a 1-0 loss against Liverpool and 3-2 setback against West Ham United last time out, both of which came on home soil at Molineux Stadium.

Take for example the defeat against the Hammers. Wolverhampton held a convincing 2.5-1.2 edge in expected goals (xG) at game's end, and probably should have come away with at least a draw. Against the Reds, they only trailed 1.1-0.8 in the xG battle and held 54%-46% edge in possession in a tight battle.

Throw in the fact Wolves have won the possession battle in four of their last five league outings, and you have a club that might be a tad bit more unlucky than they have been poor.

Betting Analysis & Pick

This match comes down to which club is in better form. For me, that's Wolves despite their recent drought. The visitors more than hung with West Ham last time out, plus they played Liverpool tight in that aforementioned defeat.

For that reason, I am backing Wolves at +0.5 on the spread line at -132 odds via DraftKings as my top pick. Fulham's collapse against Aston Villa was shocking to say the least, giving me reason to believe we are going to see a demoralized host.

History is also on Wolverhampton's side, having gone unbeaten in 12 of its last 13 meetings against Fulham across all competitions.

I will also play Both Teams To Score at +110 odds. Neither side, in particular the Cottagers, has been all that stout defensively as of late. Fulham, which has conceded eight goals in its last three league matches, faces an opponent that has yielded eight of its own in its last four league affairs.

Add all that up and you could see some fireworks at Craven Cottage.

Pick: Wolves +0.5 (-132) | Both Teams To Score — Yes (+110)
