Carlos Avilan's Rybakina vs Ostapenko Preview, Prediction
Elena Rybakina Betting Preview
The 2022 Wimbledon winner has not been able to add another Grand Slam title despite reaching the final at the 2023 Australian Open and the semifinals of the 2024 Wimbledon –clearly her best tournament, with grass as her favorite surface.
On clay, however, she can still hold her own. At Roland Garros, Rybakina has made the quarterfinals in 2021 and 2024. Although she's only 25, this is her seventh French Open appearance.
She came to Paris on the heels of her second title at the WTA 500 Strasbourg, where she won the final against Liudmila Samsonova, who also advanced to the third round of this Roland Garros.
In her two previous matches here, Rybakina has been aggressive in going to the net, winning over 70% of points in both contests.
Jelena Ostapenko Betting Preview
As her rival, Ostapenko also started her Grand Slam journey very early — this is her 10th Roland Garros at 27 years old — and won a single major tournament. The difference is in the title she won — the French Open.
She conquered it in 2017, so it's been a while, but Ostapenko stayed relevant on the tour, collecting trophies in doubles as well, and has enjoyed a resurgence in the past two years with three quarterfinal appearances in Grand Slams (one in each of the other three, but not in Paris).
Ostapenko also won a clay title in the lead-up to this French Open, claiming victory at the WTA 500 Stuttgart, where she defeated Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals and Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
This week, she has had a curious tendency in her two matches so far: she lost the first set 7-5 both times, only to win the next two without conceding more than three games in every set.
Rybakina vs Ostapenko Predictions, Betting Analysis
Their head-to-head is interesting, although it does not have to be the key to this match. Ostapenko won the first two contests and Rybakina the next three.
Only one was at a Grand Slam (Australian Open) and just one on clay (Rome). Rybakina won both in 2023 with the same exact score: 6-2, 6-4.
The odds favor Rybakina, and her performance so far backs that up. The game's outlook will be more certain if she improves her first-serve effectiveness.
The clay EloRatings ranking also gives the advantage to Rybakina (7) over Ostapenko (15). However, this should not be a brief contest.
Pick: Over 21.5 (-110, Caesars)
