Andreeva vs Chwalinska Preview, Prediction
Mirra Andreeva Betting Preview
Andreeva is a 19-year-old unaffiliated player who's ranked eighth in the WTA.
Andreeva is one of the best athletes in the world. This final, the first one of her career at a Grand Slam, only certifies this. But even without the performance in Paris, she was already seen as one of the great champions of the future.
She'll probably notch the first Grand Slam trophy of her career on Saturday, which will be one of many to come.
She has many advantages in this duel. In addition to being tall and strong, excellent on serve and aggressive on the return, she also plays very varied. She uses drop shots, lobs, molds to her opponent and knows how to take her opponent out of her comfort zone.
She has tactical intelligence, and in the future, she'll be hard to stop. She may already seem like a mature athlete on the circuit because she debuted on this stage at the age of 15 (and produced at a surprisingly solid level).
However, we have to perceive her as an athlete at the beginning of her career who's just developing her game. In the next decade, I expect her to become more and more stable on the court, and her weapons to be even more effective.
She also seems very motivated to me. She really wants to become a huge champion and she's very tough on herself, but this mentality helps. The future is obviously uncertain, but a Grand Slam trophy would give her more peace of mind.
Unlike Coco Gauff, also a Grand Slam champion at a very young age, I think Andreeva is more consistent and less prone to errors. In addition, I think she manages all surfaces ideally.
Last season was a good one for her, with two important trophies in Dubai and Indian Wells. It was the first year she finished in the ATP top 10.
The new season has already brought her two trophies, in Adelaide and Linz, plus a final in Madrid. However, a Grand Slam trophy would mean, by far, the best performance of her career.
In Paris, Andreeva has only given up one set. Otherwise, she's been simply dominant. A straight-set win against Sorana Cîrstea, one of the most fit players on the circuit, was impressive, and then in the semifinals, she won 6-1 6-3 vs. Marta Kostyuk, someone who hasn't lost a single match on clay all year.
In these two matches, she lost minimal breaks, meaning her serve has been impressive.
If she keeps up her pace and doesn't get overwhelmed by her emotions, she'll definitely prevail on Saturday.
Maja Chwalinska Betting Preview
Chwalinska is a 24-year-old Polish player who's ranked 114th in the WTA rankings.
She's the biggest surprise in world tennis since Emma Raducanu, who won the US Open out of the qualifiers.
Chwalinska also started her campaign in the qualifiers, passing top players such as Qinwen Zheng, Elise Mertens or Maria Sakkari. She didn't have the most difficult draw in the world, as she avoided Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals, but the performance remains a fabulous one.
This is the first time that a player that came out of qualifying reached the Roland Garros final, and this story will be told repeatedly in the coming decades.
Remarkably, Chwalinska was on the verge of being kicked out of her hotel where she's staying at in Paris because she no longer had the money to pay for the room. It took one of her few sponsors to step in and help her keep her room for the second week.
She was asked at the press conference on Thursday why she changes her equipment from match to match. The belief was that there's a symbolism behind these decisions. However, Chwalinska explained that the reason is very simple: she doesn't have an equipment sponsor, so she dresses randomly, with whatever she finds.
Unfortunately, tennis is a sport that rewards only its elite, and lower-ranked players are forgotten. But, for Chwalinska, no matter what happens today, life will change.
First of all, she'll climb extremely high in the rankings, up to 21st place in the WTA if she's defeated and even higher with a trophy. This means that she'll have her presence secured in all main draws on tour.
Then, important sponsors will come to her side, which will bring her another financial comfort. She fully deserves all these things.
Returning to actual tennis on the court, Chwalinska's game is interesting. She's not strong and she can't physically dominate any opponent. However, she plays very variedly, very intelligently and creates advantages for herself through these unexpected shots.
She's also a left-handed player, which helps.
Last season was quite weak for the qualifier, with a small trophy at the WTA 125K in Montreaux. The new season has been equally modest, with another small trophy, which was also on clay, at the WTA 125K Oeiras.
She was unable to enter the world's top 100, but now reality has completely changed.
In Paris, Chwalinska has already won nine matches, including qualifications. She only lost one set, to Sakkari, while otherwise being very solid. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Anna Kalinskaya in two sets, and on Thursday, in the semifinals, she got past Diana Shnaider, again successful in two sets.
In both matches, she had some emotions and long sets, but Chwalinska seemed very efficient in key moments and very calm. For a player who had never reached the semifinals of a WTA tournament, this is impressive.
Obviously, Saturday's final is the most important match of her career. She has absolutely nothing to lose, but we'll see if she'll have any emotions or not.
Mirra Andreeva vs Maja Chwalinska Predictions, Betting Analysis
Chwalinska pulled off one of the biggest upsets in tennis history to get here. This is a player who had never been in the world's top 100, who came from the qualifiers and who barely found enough money to pay for a hotel room for two weeks. Now she's a Grand Slam finalist.
She lost only one set in nine matches, and this will remain a historic run, no matter what happens on Saturday.
Andreeva has been the most dominant player in the competition, losing only one set. She gradually picked up her pace, and in the quarters, she won a set 6-0 against Cirstea. In the semifinals, perhaps the most fit tennis player in the world and one who was undefeated on clay this year — Kostyuk — had no chance.
Andreeva has played fabulously every time out. She has a varied game and her serve has gone perfectly (only two breaks allowed in these matches with enormous stakes).
On Saturday, she's a huge favorite. If she's not overwhelmed by emotions, she'll easily prevail. If she gives in under the pressure of her first Grand Slam trophy, anything is possible. However, her semifinal match showed us that she's very focused and determined.
Therefore, I expect her to win in straight sets.
