Fernando Romero's Tsitsipas vs Etcheverry Preview, Prediction

Tomas Martin Etcheverry Betting Preview

Few players arrive at Roland Garros as such an unknown quantity as Etcheverry. The Argentine, a former top-30 player in the world, has been appalling this season — he has a 9-14 record and has made it past the third round of a tournament only once.

That was, until this past week.

Finding form that had eluded him for most of this year, Etcheverry carved a way into the Hamburg Open semifinals, looking set for his first final appearance in under a year.

Yes, he completely collapsed in a match he essentially had in the bag, going from 6-2, 3-1 up to losing in the third set. Still, Flavio Cobolli went on to beat a resurgent Andrey Rublev with similar ease, so I won't hold too much over Etcheverry.

Is this version of Etcheverry in the form of his life, ready to storm the Philippe Chatrier? No. But he was tremendously solid — if at times too passive — in Hamburg.

Luckily for him, his rival is an equally erratic — if slightly higher-caliber — player.

Stefanos Tsitsipas Betting Preview

What do we make of Tsitsipas this season?

After a sordid outing at the Australian Open, it looked like a racket change was all the Greek star needed to regain his 2021 form. He cruised to a win at the Dubai Open (against somewhat weak opposition, admittedly) and held his own at Indian Wells.

It was perhaps like Icarus flying too close to the sun, as the new equipment gimmick lasted only a handful of tournaments.

By the start of the clay season, he was back to his usual racket and his usual results.

Far down the list as a potential winner, Tsitsipas should be making it at least a couple of rounds, with his first seeded rival only potentially coming in the third round in Ben Shelton, who's hardly a clay-court specialist.

I'd be surprised if he makes it past that point.

Tsitsipas vs Etcheverry Predictions, Betting Analysis

In a duel between two players in the midst of somewhat disappointing seasons, I'm still backing Tsitsipas to take the win. Yet, if Etcheverry can keep the solid form he showcased in Hamburg, he'll benefit from the Greek star's erratic shot selection and lapses in concentration.

A five-setter sounds a bit too optimistic as the Argentine player ultimately lacks — more often than not — the tools to hurt a former top-10 player.

But I can see him taking a set and sending shivers down Tsitsipas' spine.
