Damm vs Tiafoe Preview, Prediction
By: Tudor Cosma
Martin Damm Betting Preview
Damm, a 22-year-old American who's ranked 92nd in the ATP, is currently in the best position of his career, as this will be the first season he ends in the world's top 100.
That doesn't mean Damm is suddenly going to be the next face of USA tennis (that's unlikely). However, we'll see him more often in important competitions, and perhaps even surprising some bigger names on fast courts where his big serve can thrive.
Damm is 6-foot-8, making him one of the tallest players in the history of tennis. His serve is excellent, but he's also quite slow on return and from the baseline.
We've seen this type of player before (John Isner), one who's a big threat on hard and grass, but limited on clay and when getting into long rallies.
Damm has the ability to develop his baseline game, since he's a bit more agile than Isner, but he'll never be able to compare to elite servers who have strong conditioning like Nick Kyrgios or Alexander Zverev.
The 2026 season has been solid for Damm, with an indoor semifinal in Montpellier and a third round appearance in Winston-Salem.
I mention Winston-Salem because Damm earned the biggest win of his career so far, upsetting Daniil Medvedev in straight sets. Yes, Medvedev has been playing incredibly poorly as of late, but success against a former world No. 1 is exactly the confidence booster that the American needs moving forward.
Damm lost to Fabian Marozsan in the following match (6-2, 3-6, 3-6) in Winston-Salem, though. He gave up three breaks, showing his potential limits.
Frances Tiafoe Betting Preview
Tiafoe, a 28-year-old American who's ranked 12th in the ATP, is an elite player on tour. However, he can't be placed in the same category as Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev. Even Rafael Jodar and Joao Fonseca (future Grand Slam champions), are held to higher expectations than Tiafoe.
That doesn't mean Tiafoe is far away from achieving a major title, though. He attracts an audience and gets media coverage, especially in America where he reached the US Open semifinals twice.
His actual game is spectacular, but he's not always efficient. While he has a good serve, he's sometimes uninspiring on return, which doesn't make it easy for him to break serve.
He's very strong mentally and he definitely has an optimistic attitude that helps him on the court.
It also helps that Tiafoe is incredibly well respected at this tournament, meaning he'll always get support from the fans.
The problem in this event in 2026 is his draw. In Round 4, he could meet Novak Djokovic and in the semifinals, he could meet Alcaraz.
The good news is that Tiafoe is in better physical shape than both.
Meanwhile, the 2026 season has been excellent for Tiafoe, as he has an important trophy on grass in Halle and reached the final in Acapulco.
He had a big result in Cincinnati, when he reached the finals before losing to Arthur Fils. He was excellent there, though, beating Felix Auger-Aliassime, Lorenzo Musetti and Brandon Nakashima in straight sets.
On paper, those were three matches he very well could've lost, and the fact that he played so well is a deeply positive sign.
Despite his loss to Fils, I think he'll have a good run at the US Open.
Damm vs Tiafoe Predictions, Betting Analysis
Damm is a rising tennis player who recently entered the world's top 100 for the first time. However, he's still limited. He has a good serve, but he's slow, especially on return.
While the American did just recently beat Medvedev in Winston-Salem, we must take into account Medvedev's poor form and the fact that this was a warm-up tournament for the US Open.
Otherwise, this summer, Damm lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas 0-2, Stefanos Sakellaridis (ranked 157th in the ATP) 0-2 and Marozsan (although he took a set in this match).
Meanwhile, Tiafoe is in excellent form after his finals berth at Cincinnati. In addition, Tiafoe is very comfortable at this complex, where he's infused by the energy coming from the crowd.
I therefore believe that Tiafoe will cover the set spread of -1.5.
Pick: Frances Tiafoe Set Spread -1.5 (-175)
