Rockies vs Dodgers MLB Betting Preview
While playing at Coors Field has traditionally given the Rockies an advantage offensively, this season, their home and road splits are not as drastic. The Rockies average 5.1 runs per game at home and 4.7 runs per game on the road. Catcher Hunter Goodman has personally been responsible for boosting the road numbers.
Goodman has hit 18 of his 27 home runs on the road while recording a .974 OPS. Goodman is third in the MLB in home runs behind Kyle Schwarber and Yordan Alvarez, and that has helped him earn a second consecutive trip to the All-Star Game.
However, he will be looking to get back in the hit column after going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts last night.
The Rockies scored seven runs last night as they rallied to force extra innings. While their comeback fell short, they did cover the run line for the first time in six tries against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. However, they may need at least seven runs again to pull off a win tonight.
Michael Lorenzen will get the start for the Rockies, and he has been dreadful this season, entering this start at 3-9 and with a 6.91 ERA. His expected numbers are a bit better, but his expected FIP, ERA, and SIERA are all still at least 4.70 or higher.
Left-handed hitters are slashing .365/.423/.640 with 35 extra-base hits and 35 RBI against him. That could make tonight's outing a difficult one for him, beginning with Shohei Ohtani and having to deal with Freddie Freeman, Kyle Tucker, and Max Muncy as well.
Another win last night allowed the Dodgers to maintain a 2.5-game lead on the Brewers for the best record in the MLB and the No. 1 seed in the National League. However, last night's game looked a little bit different. In game 92, the Dodgers played in extra innings for the first time, the second-longest into a season a team has gone without playing an extra-inning game, all-time, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
After the teams traded runs in the 10th inning, Dalton Rushing delivered a walk-off single in the 11th inning for his second walk-off hit in the last two weeks. While he drove in the team's final run, he came around to score the team's first run of the game as Ohtani hit a two-run home run in the third inning for the 299th home run of his career. He is +215 to hit #300 tonight.
The Dodgers are heading into the All-Star break on a 10-game homestand against NL West opponents. They are currently 4-1 on the homestand and have won eight of their last 10 games overall. They have also won eight of their last 10 games against the Rockies.
Dave Roberts' club will look to continue those trends tonight as Justin Wrobleski will get the start. Wrobleski may not be overly flashy to some, but he only has 64 strikeouts in 93 innings this season. However, he has still been plenty effective as he is 10-2 with a 2.80 ERA while providing stability to the rotation with Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow on the injured list. Most years, those numbers would be good enough to earn a trip to the All-Star game, but it is a loaded field of starting pitchers in the NL this season.
Wrobleski is coming off a career-high 11 strikeouts against the Athletics. It will be interesting to see if he can continue that tonight, as the Rockies have the highest strikeout rate against left-handed pitchers.

Rockies vs Dodgers Pick, Betting Analysis
While Wrobleski's advanced metrics (4.26 xERA and 4.30 xFIP) are not as favorable towards him as his traditional numbers, he still is second in MLB in wins. It certainly helps that he has received a lot of run support as the Dodgers have scored 36 more runs than any other team this season.
In six of Wrobleski's appearances this season, the game has had at least 12 runs, with the Dodgers winning all of those games. That includes three of his last four starts.
The Dodgers have also won eight of their last 10 games against the Rockies, and there have been at least nine runs scored in six of those games. With Lorenzen starting, the Dodgers should do most of the heavy lifting towards that total tonight.
Collectively, they are hitting .273 against him as a team, with Ohtani, Freeman, Andy Pages, Muncy, and Tucker having multiple hits, including a Pages home run.
