Boston looks to keep the good times rolling when it takes on the Orioles on Thursday night. It will mark the final game of a three-game set in Baltimore.
The fading Orioles are a not-so-bad-for-them 4-6 over their last 10 games, with wins over Boston, Philadelphia and Texas.
The Red Sox are in sole possession of the second wild-card spot in the American League, 0.5 games ahead of the Seattle Mariners and one game up on the Toronto Blue Jays.
Boston has won six of its last 10 games, with those four losses coming in the form of a three-game series loss to the Yankees and an upset loss to the Orioles.
Veteran Right-hander Nick Pivetta will be on the mound for the BoSox, possessing a 9-7 record and a 4.52 ERA. Baltimore will toss lefty Alexander Wells.
Wells is actually a relief pitcher and has an unimpressive 7.61 ERA on the season.
But on the positive side, Wells has been excellent at limiting walks, allowing one or fewer BBs in four of his last five appearances.
In Baltimore's upset win over Boston on Tuesday, the offense provided some timely hits off of usually excellent starter Chris Sale and the Orioles' bullpen closed the door on any Red Sox comeback hopes late in the game.
Sale gave up four hits and three earned runs in Boston's 4-2 loss on Tuesday, and Baltimore will need that type of clutch effort against the much less intimidating Pivetta on Thursday night.
