Braves vs Dodgers MLB Betting Preview
As of 11:30 EST, the Braves have yet to confirm a starting pitcher for this game. It would always have been Chris Sale's game to start, if not for a highly debatable decision to use him to record the final four outs of Game 3 versus the Phillies on Thursday. Manager Walt Weiss stated Saturday that if Sale feels good to go, he would be the starter, which makes it reasonable to lean towards Sale taking the mound.
After the Braves fell behind early in Game 1 against Tarik Skubal, the game became somewhat of a punt, given that many of their top relievers were unavailable. While Ozzie Albies’ two-run homer in the ninth made the decision look more reasonable, and Weiss didn’t have many options, it was still less than ideal for Brent Suter to enter the game and throw 33 pitches.
Even still, the Braves should offer drastically more convincing pitching in Game 2. Didier Fuentes, Dylan Lee, Raisel Iglesias and Robert Suarez are all well-rested, which means the Dodgers will face mainly elite arms for the entirety of this matchup if Sale is able to work five or six innings.
Sale was dominant in the Wild Card round, striking out 14.09 batters per nine innings with a WHIP of 0.79 over seven and two-thirds innings. The Dodgers' lineup obviously poses a much more difficult test than the Phillies', and they were much more productive against lefties this season and hit sliders and sinkers more effectively.
The Braves struggled against left-handed pitching this season, finishing the year 21st with a wRC+ of 91. They were also less productive versus lefties in the second half, hitting to a wRC+ of 87 from July 1st on.
Kyle Tucker and Teoscar Hernandez each hit two-run homers in Game 1, and finished a combined 4-for-8 at the plate. Based on the last several postseasons, it's not overly surprising to see Hernandez immediately turn the corner in October, but Tucker potentially finding his stroke would obviously provide a massive boost to an offense that doesn't really need it.
Due to the addition of Skubal and a much stronger bullpen, there is an argument to be made that, on paper, this Dodgers team is more stacked than either of the 2024 or 2025 World Series teams. The Dodgers' bullpen ranked first in xERA, xFIP, and Pitching+ over the final 30 days of the regular season and remains in great shape heading into Sunday's matchup.
Snell made just nine starts in the regular season, finishing with an xERA of 2.17 and an xFIP of 3.06. He allowed four earned runs in just three innings of work versus the Braves on May 9th but had just come off the IL and went right back on it following the outing, which suggests it may not be smart to put stock in that outing as a meaningful predictive indicator.
The Dodgers used Snell quite cautiously down the stretch, as he made four starts in September and threw just 16 2/3 innings. In those outings, he posted a 1.08 ERA, a 2.24 xERA, and a 123 Stuff+ rating.

Braves vs Dodgers Pick, Betting Analysis
Confirmation towards Atlanta's starting pitcher could obviously swing the lines quite significantly, but backing the game to feature under 7 runs at -110 looks to provide strong value if Sale is ultimately able to start. Potential fatigue is a slight concern, but Thursday would have been his regular bullpen session, and it seems reasonable to believe that throwing 21 pitches in that outing will not significantly hinder his effectiveness.
Atlanta's lineup was well below average versus lefties in the second half of the campaign, and Snell enters this start off of one of the most dominant months of his career. Perhaps not working for a third time through the order in most recent outings made him appear even more dominant, but his stuff was still borderline untouchable.
Both bullpens also look rock-solid entering this matchup after the Braves more or less waved the white flag in Game 1.
Pick: Under 7 -110 (DraftKings, Play to -115)
