I doubt many folks had the Rockies holding first place in the NL West with an 8-2 start out of the gate, but here we are. And the betting market has begun to take notice.

For example, I highly doubt you would have found the Rockies as -200 favorites over the Giants if this matchup were taking place on Opening Day. But at some of the earliest books to market, that's where tonight's line opened.

So, was that an overreaction to Colorado's hot start?

Well, based on how bets and money have flowed toward this game — and from whom those bets have come — an overreaction seems likely.

Giants vs. Rockies Betting Report

Despite opening as significant favorites, it hasn't been difficult for the Rockies to attract bettors tonight. Sixty percent of moneyline tickets have been placed on the Rockies, but you won't be finding them up in the -200 range any longer.

Even with the public's support, Colorado has fallen to -177 at DraftKings (and even lower at some books), as bigger bets from sharp bettors have landed on the underdog.

To be more specific, the 40% of bets landing on the Giants have generated 84% of actual money being wagered on the moneyline. This means that San Francisco is landing much bigger bets — ones more likely to be made by sharps.

Further confirmation of sharp action arrived via a Sports Insights Bet Signal. A steam move was triggered on the Giants at +155, sending the line further downward.

Steam refers to a sudden, drastic line move caused by a heavy dose of money landing on the same side of a bet over a very short period of time. This kind of move is a strong sign of sharp action.

Sharp angle: Giants (moved from +182 to +145)
