Mets vs Giants Preview

I previewed Game 1 of this series and correctly called David Peterson's struggles in the mid-innings against the Giants, which ultimately resulted in the shortest outing by a Mets starting pitcher in this series. However, what I did not see coming in the following two gams is the Mets' offensive outburst.

In the last two games of this series, the Mets have outscored the Giants 19-3. While the Mets' lineup, which was without Juan Soto and will be again today, must be given credit, the struggles of the Giants' lineup cannot be understated.

San Francisco has struggled mightily out of the gate, holding the second-lowest wRC+ in all of baseball. Although things should begin to turn today, as Logan Webb gets a chance to be the stopper.

Webb himself has gotten off to a horrid start after a career year in 2025. He enters his third start of the season with a 7.36 ERA. However, Webb has still been producing groundballs at an above-average rate, and the Mets are still hitting them nearly half the time.

Webb's  2.64 FIP is a massive indicator of positive regression, and we should see that here, even against a Mets lineup that has been raking of late.

On the other side of this matchup, Kodai Senga enters his second start looking as good as ever. Senga dominated the Cardinals in his first outing, striking out nine and setting a career high in whiffs.

Although there are some small concerns for Senga facing a much more potent lineup this afternoon. According to Handigraphs, Senga only had a first pitch strike rate of 48 percent in his first outing, and while he did not surrender much contact, balls were hit hard against him nearly 54 percent of the time, and the majority were in the air.

Mets vs Giants Picks

This matchup has all the makings of a pitcher's duel, especially in the pitcher-friendly environment in San Francisco. However, if there's a side that's going to break through in the first half of this one, it's the Giants.

Webb has the potential to mow down the Mets efficiently, while Senga could be tough to hit but is overall pegged for an inefficient outing. If San Francisco can remain disciplined, we should see them cash in on RBI opportunities and be leading halfway through this one.

Pick: Giants F5 ML -125
