Yankees vs Royals Picks for Today's MLB Game
Story: Schittler to Continue Hot Start
The Yankees are set to square off with the Royals on Tuesday night in the second of a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
Royals’ veteran right-hander Michael Wacha will take the mound for Kansas City, while Cam Schittler will be on the bump for the visiting Yanks.
Below, I will break down this American League clash and provide a “same-game-parlay” (SGP) selection that you can use as a betting angle when wagering on Tuesday night’s contest.
For the first leg of our SGP, I will be looking to back the Yankees to prevail on their first-five (F5) moneyline ahead of Tuesday’s matchup.
Despite pitching in just his second season in the Major Leagues, the Yankees’ 25-year-old right-hander Cam Schittler has quickly established himself as one of the best starting pitchers (SP) in all of baseball right now.
New York’s youngster has recorded a remarkably impressive 1.50 ERA over his first 11 starts of his sophomore campaign- ranking first in all of baseball in that metric.
Across 66 frames on the mound, Schittler has allowed just 11 earned runs (ER) and ranks second amongst all SP in the MLB with a 0.86 WHIP thus far.
Though the Yanks’ righty gets a tough matchup on Tuesday night, facing a Royals lineup featuring one of the best players in all of baseball in SS Bobby Witt Jr, I expect Schittler to continue his reign of dominance.
New York has a definitive pitching advantage in Tuesday’s American League showdown, which is why I favor backing the Yankees on their F5 moneyline to start our SGP.
Royals’ right-hander Michael Wacha has a phenomenal head-to-head history against this Yankees’ lineup, with a substantial sample size of 136 at-bats (AB).
Wacha has allowed just 19 hits to this Yankees’ lineup across their 136 previous encounters with Kansas City’s right-hander, boasting an exceptional .140 AVG to opposing hitters and having allowed just ten runs over that duration.
In consideration of all the Yankees’ hitters who have previously faced Wacha at the plate, New York OF Cody Bellinger had had by far the most success versus the Royals’ 34-year-old, having recorded three hits, a homer and three RBIs versus the righty veteran.
That said, I will be looking to target player prop markets for the second leg of our SGP as well and feel great about backing Bellinger to exceed his 1.5 TB (Total Bases) mark in a spot where Wacha could certainly be due for some regression on the mound.
Over the course of his career, Wacha has been far inferior to left-handed sluggers like Bellinger and has frequently been susceptible to hard contact and heavy damage to batters on the left side of the plate.
Wacha heavily relies on a four-seam fastball that, velocity-wise, typically resides in the low-to-mid 90s MPH, which is the perfect pitch for Bellinger, whose elite exit velocity and launch angle will play a vital role in his success at the plate.
In addition to the vulnerability of Wacha’s fastball to left-handed hitters, the Royals’ veteran has an off-speed arsenal of which Bellinger also sets up extremely well, matchup-wise.
Kansas City’s righty relies on soft-contact and high ground-ball rates to retire batters, and his lack of strikeout prowess could prove to be his downfall when matched up versus an elite pull-hitter of Bellinger’s caliber.
I expect the Yanks’ lefty slugger to have several opportunities to record extra-base hits on Tuesday night, and backing Bellinger to record at least two total bases should round out our SGP quite nicely.
- Yankees F5 ML (-215)
- Cody Bellinger Over 1.5 Total Bases (-105)
Parlay Odds: +186 (FanDuel)
