McGee vs. Nolan Pick, Prediction

Provo, Utah native Court McGee enters his retirement fight on Saturday at age 41, after winning season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter (Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz) in 2011; for perspective, that show just wrapped up season 34.

He will face Eric Nolan, an opponent 12 years his junior, who was taken down 17 times in his last fight against Farman Hasanov.

While McGee has been an underrated striker throughout his career (+0.8 differential per minute at distance), Nolan is both the faster and more durable athlete on the feet at this stage of their respective careers, and McGee likely needs grappling success if he wants to pull the upset after his final walk to the Octagon.

McGee isn't the best wrestler (36 of 145 attempts; 25% landed), but he is fairly reliable to shoot (averages 3.4 attempts per five minutes at distance), and he has decent top pressure (82% control rate) and a solid submission game.

I project small edges on McGee to win by Submission (projected +621, listed +900) or inside the distance (projected +421, listed +650), and I would also consider a live wager on him after the opening round; despite the age gap, I expect McGee, who trains at altitude, to have the better stamina in this fight potentially.

Zerillo's Picks:

  • Court McGee wins by Submission (+850, 0.05u; DraftKings)
  • Court McGee Live after Round 1
