Conor McGregor's comeback is eating up every headline heading into UFC 329, but a quieter drama is unfolding away from the cage: will President Donald Trump actually show up to the event?

On Kalshi, traders have been chewing on that question for weeks, and where the price sits right now might surprise anyone who's watched Trump turn the last year and a half into one long sports tour.

Will Trump Attend UFC 329? The Kalshi Market Leans No

The Kalshi contract asking whether Trump will attend UFC 329 has spent the past two months sliding lower. Interest spiked when the McGregor-Holloway fight was first announced, briefly pushing the price close to a coin flip, but as fight week arrived, it dropped into the single digits.

More than $2.3 million has already traded on the question, which tells you plenty of people have strong opinions about the president's Saturday night plans. Right now, most of that money is leaning toward an empty seat where Trump might have sat.

Trump's Sports Calendar Has Been Busy All Year

The skepticism has nothing to do with Trump's love of sports: if anything, it cuts the other way. Since returning to office, he's become one of the most visible fans in the country.

He was the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl, showing up at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans in February 2025.

Seven months later, he attended the US Open men's final, marking the first time a sitting president had gone to the tournament since Bill Clinton in 2000.

Last July, he joined the crowd at the FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey, watching Chelsea beat Paris Saint-Germain and taking part in the trophy presentation.

This June, he became the first sitting president to attend an NBA Finals game, watching the KnicksSpurs series from a suite at Madison Square Garden.

He's also expected back at MetLife Stadium on July 19, when FIFA president Gianni Infantino says the two of them will present the World Cup trophy together.

Add the UFC Freedom 250 the White House hosted just weeks ago, and it's clear this isn't a president who shies away from a big night out.

Why UFC 329 Looks Different

Given all that, the low number on Kalshi stands out. A couple of things might explain it.

Trump already had his UFC moment this year with the White House event, and there's no public sign he's heading to Las Vegas for a second one so soon after. Some traders on the platform have also floated a security-related theory: that presidential appearances at sporting events typically aren't confirmed until a day or two beforehand. That's circulating chatter rather than verified policy, so it's worth treating as one possible explanation rather than a settled fact.

The Iran Situation May Be Keeping Trump in Washington

There's a more concrete factor in play: Iran.

With the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran unraveling this week, fresh intelligence pointing to a possible plot against the president, and the funeral of Ayatollah Khamenei drawing global attention, Trump has plenty keeping him close to his desk. Renewed strikes near the Strait of Hormuz and his own comments about being on "every list" only add to the sense that this is a delicate moment to add a large public event to the schedule.

Why President Donald Trump Might Show Up At UFC 329:

  • Trump has barely missed a marquee sports night since returning to office, and a sold-out McGregor comeback is exactly the kind of spectacle he's gravitated toward all year.
  • He and UFC CEO Dana White have a close, public friendship, and White has hosted him ringside going back years before this second term.

Why President Donald Trump Might Stay Away:

  • Trump already got his UFC fix this year with the White House card, easing any pressure to show up for a second major MMA event so soon after.
  • Escalating tensions with Iran, including reports of a fresh plot against him and a broken ceasefire, give him plenty of reason to stay close to Washington this weekend.

Whatever happens between McGregor and Holloway on Saturday, the fight over Trump's plans has already played out in the Kalshi order book. For now, the market's answer is a quiet one: the smart money says the president watches this one from Washington, cage-side seat and all.
