Cal Baptist vs Utah Valley College Basketball Pick
After a wild season that featured a triple round-robin and a “will they or won’t they?” surround top seed Utah Valley’s ability to play in the WAC Tournament, the final season of the WAC (soon to be the United Athletic Conference) features a predictable matchup: No. 1 seed Utah Valley against No. 2 seed Cal Baptist.
These were the best two teams in the league all year long, so the matchup does feel fitting. UVU won two of the three games (both played at UVU), while CBU won the only meeting it hosted in overtime.
Both teams are massive in the frontcourt, and the game could be decided in the paint.
UVU plays through its forward duo of Jackson Holcombe and Isaac Davis, both of whom are mismatches thanks to their versatility as post scorers or passers. Add in the spindly Isaac Hawkins, and UVU has a dominant offensive rebounding trio.
However, the Lancers are even better on the offensive glass. Thomas Ndong, Jonathan Griman and Bradey Henige are all 6-foot-10 or taller with top 200-ish offensive rebound rates, and veteran wing Devon Malcolm is a menace on the glass, as well.
Those two paint crews could negate each other inside.
The stat to watch, though, is the turnover battle.
In the two Utah Valley wins, the Wolverines forced 43 CBU miscues while committing just 20 themselves. Even in the loss, UVU won that battle, forcing 17 while committing 14. If it's overly lopsided, UVU will win.
However, Cal Baptist's Dom Daniels will be the best player on the floor. The jitterbug point guard is a midrange assassin, and he has one of the highest usage rates in the entire country. He’s a near-lock for 20-plus points.
Daniels was up and down in the three meetings, though: in the losses, he averaged 14.5 PPG and had three assists to eight turnovers. In the win, he exploded for 47 points.
Coming off a 41-point masterpiece in the WAC semifinals, Daniels appears poised for another huge game, though UVU has size in the backcourt to combat him.

Cal Baptist vs Utah Valley Pick, Betting Analysis
Utah Valley is also dealing with a key injury to wing sniper Tyler Hendricks. The best shooter on the team, Hendricks has missed the last four games (all narrow Utah Valley victories). Without his spacing, the floor shrinks on the Wolverines’ frontcourt and playmaking point guard Trevan Leonhardt.
In the end, even without Hendricks, Utah Valley’s more balanced attack gives it more outs than the Daniels-led Lancers.
I expect a close game, but I will lay it with Utah Valley -2.5. Anything higher than -3, and I would stay away, particularly due to UVU’s poor free-throw shooting (68.6%, 310th nationally).
My Pick: Utah Valley -1.5
