Charleston vs Stony Brook Odds, Pick for Tuesday

It all comes down to this: The Stony Brook Seawolves have the opportunity to cap off an incredible run and punch their ticket to the Big Dance.

However, their final test is the toughest yet, as they take on the top-seeded Charleston Cougars Tuesday night in the Coastal Athletic Association championship game.

When these teams met in early January, the game turned into a track meet. However, this meeting could be very different as Stony Brook will be playing their fourth game in four days, and Charleston will be playing its third in three days.

Charleston enters red-hot, holding the nation's second-longest winning streak at 11 games. The Cougars have been able to overwhelm their Coastal opposition with an up-tempo but highly efficient offense.

They have the top offense in the conference, and are a challenge for any team with their tempo. However, they might dial it back tonight, given the circumstances of the tournament. It also might be a saving grace for Stony Brook, which will be playing on tired legs.

The Cougars have a clear modus operandi when they step on the floor. They will fire from beyond the arc and hustle to clean up any misses. While they do have the edge on the glass, they could be in for gathering even more of their missed shots, as Stony Brook ranks third in the CAA in 3-point percentage allowed.

The heart of this Stony Brook team is what makes March so great. This team was the No. 7 seed and has pulled off multiple upsets to keep its season alive.

However, predicting offensive success for the Seawolves in their fourth game in four days is difficult. In the semifinals on Monday night, they upset Hofstra, and that game was a grind that finished with a total of 122 points.

We should expect the Seawolves to play even slower tonight as attrition and an attempt to counteract Charleston's pace comes into play, regardless of their own tempo. They typically look to get the ball inside but will be facing a Cougars defense that has the size to protect the rim.

We have seen the total crash in this matchup, and rightfully so. This game is likely to be a war of attrition, given the schedule of this tournament.

However, I would not suggest taking the under at every number. At the time of writing, we have seen the total fall from 156.5 to 150.5.

A nearly two-possession difference is a big deal. So, while I recommend taking the under in this game, you must be willing to buy back at a certain point.
