Delaware vs BYU College Basketball Betting Preview

Delaware Basketball

Delaware has been dreadful to start the season, and it won’t get much better from here. The Blue Hens are expected to be at the bottom of the C-USA.

After two terrible showings against Bucknell and Wilmington, DE, facing BYU isn’t at the top of their to-do list. They'll be outmatched in terms of length, talent and depth

This team is the opposite of BYU. They lack depth and efficiency.

The travel out West will also present some problems for Delaware.

BYU Basketball

BYU took a different path than what most consider the norm in the new NIL format of college sports. The Cougars returned 70% of their production from a season ago and brought in the nation's No. 1 recruit, AJ Dybantsa.

Dybantsa has led the way with 19 points per game over the first two outings.

The freshman can also rely on the veteran presence of last year's team (mainly Richie Saunders) to help guide his way into stardom.

This team controls the ball at a very efficient rate. The Cougars have turned the ball on just over 7% of their offensive possessions, which is good for fourth in the country.

They rank in the top third of Division I basketball in terms of experience and also rank in the top third in bench minutes. BYU may not be as deep as it was last season, but it's way more talented.

The Cougars haven’t rebounded well to start the season, but I expect that to turn around, as they rank in the top 50 in average height.

BYU does have a pretty difficult slate coming up, as it'll face UConn, Wisconsin and Miami back-to-back-to-back. Efficiency is their biggest strength, so against an inferior opponent, expect that to play out.

Delaware vs. BYU Betting Analysis

This is a huge spread, topping out at 35.5. I’ll rarely give out a game where laying 35.5 is a good option. But there's another way to look at this game.

BYU doesn't play at a fast pace, and even with its efficiency, it hasn't scored 100 in a game this season. And while Delaware will struggle in this matchup, it's a tick better than Holy Cross, BYU’s last opponent.

BYU will score a lot in this game, but with UConn on tap, and this game being out of hand late, I like the Cougars to score under 99.5 points.

This is a classic lookahead spot for BYU, so maybe it empties the bench late.

My Pick: BYU Team Total Under 99.5 (Play to 96.5)
