Gonzaga looks to remain undefeated on Monday night when it travels to Provo to take on BYU

Gonzaga has been on cruise control during WCC play, without anybody giving it a real scare yet. Monday's matchup against BYU will likely be its toughest test during conference play.

BYU has been the second-best team in the WCC this season, with only two losses to Gonzaga and Pepperdine on the road. In fact, the Cougars have won six of their last seven games, including a 105-60 blowout of Portland over the weekend.

BYU desperately struggled on offense in the last meeting, so it'll be interesting to see if they are able to put up a better showing at home.

When Gonzaga has the ball

The Bulldogs offense has been impossible to stop this season because they have elite scorers at all five positions on the floor.

Four of their five starters are averaging double figures on the season and both forwards — Drew Timme and Corey Kispert — are on the cusp of averaging 20 points apiece.

Gonzaga's offense is solid in pretty much every statistical category, which makes it extremely difficult to defend. The Bulldogs are averaging 1.21 points per possession during WCC play and have only been held under 80 points twice.

Gonzaga dominates their opponents inside as they have the best 2-point field goal percentage in the country and average 73.6% on shot attempts at the rim, per Hoop-Math.

Gonzaga shot 56% from inside in the first meeting with BYU, so the Cougars will need to defend much better in the pain if they want to have any shot at covering.

BYU's defense is built to defend inside, allowing only 43.6% from 2-point range during conference play. The Cougars are holding their opponents to only 0.97 points per possession in WCC play, but as they discovered in the first matchup, Gonzaga is a different animal.

BYU honestly didn't do a terrible job defending in the first meeting, holding Gonzaga to 1.18 points per possession. But it'll need to put up a better defensive performance if it wants to cover the 10.5-point spread.

When BYU has the ball

BYU plays the eighth-fastest tempo in the country, which has allowed its dribble handoff offense to flourish. The Cougars are the second-best offense in the WCC behind Gonzaga, averaging a whopping 1.13 points per possession.

BYU is shooting the ball tremendously from all over the floor, averaging over 35% from 3 and almost 56% from 2-point range. However, in the first matchup against Gonzaga, the Cougars struggled to get anything going offensively, as they averaged only 0.95 points per possession.

Really, the only way to beat this Gonzaga team is to hit an absurd amount of 3-pointers. The Bulldogs are allowing their opponents to shoot 34.7% from 3-point range during WCC play.

BYU was just 4-of-16 from deep in their first meeting, so it'll need to hit way more triples, because trying to score inside against Gonzaga is a fool's errand.

The Bulldogs are allowing only 41% from 2-point range during conference play and have allowed their opponents to shoot only 54.6% on attempts at the rim, per Hoop-Math.  So, the Cougars need to make shooting a ton of 3 a priority tonight if they are going to hang with the Zags.

Betting Analysis & Pick

The way these two offenses have been playing during conference play, I think we are going to see a high scoring affair. Both Gonzaga and BYU are top-10 in adjusted tempo, per KenPom, so this game is likely to turn into a track meet.

Therefore, I think there is some value in backing over 155 points in this matchup.

Pick: Over 155 points or better
