Vanderbilt vs Texas College Basketball Betting Preview
Vanderbilt Basketball
Vanderbilt continues to show why it's one of the best teams in college basketball. The Commodores are 16-0 overall and 3-0 in SEC play after their 84-73 win against LSU.
Vanderbilt has the fifth-best offense, according to KenPom, as it averages 93 points per game while shooting 50% from the field and 37% from 3.
Tyler Tanner has been one of the best players in the country, averaging 17 points and over five assists per game.
An underrated aspect about Vanderbilt is its defense. As much fun as it is to watch the Dores be efficient on offense, they're also one of the most efficient defensive teams in the country.
Tanner and Duke Miles are the two leading scorers on the team, but they also lead the squad in steals per game, with Miles averaging 2.9 and Tanner averaging 2.6.
Vanderbilt had 10 steals in its win against LSU, while scoring 16 points off of turnovers. Now the Dores are playing a Texas team that's shown to be careless with the ball in their losses this season.
Texas Basketball
The Longhorns are 10-6 overall and 1-2 in the SEC, but they're coming off one of the most impressive wins this season in the SEC, a 92-88 victory at Alabama.
The X-factor for Texas in this matchup is Jordan Pope.
In Texas' two wins against top-25 teams, Pope is averaging 28 points while shooting 16-of-32 (50%) from the field and 13-of-26 (50%) from 3.
In Texas' three losses to ranked teams, Pope is averaging 10 points per game, including a zero-point performance against Tennessee in which he only shot the ball three times in 13 minutes.
Another question that needs to be answered for the Longhorns if they want to record the upset is if Matas Vokietaitis can get going.
In his last two games, he's averaging six points and 3.5 rebounds in 15 minutes per game.
Vanderbilt gave up 40 points in the paint against LSU, so can this be a bounce back game for Vokietaitis?
Vanderbilt vs. Texas Betting Analysis
Yes, Texas is coming off an impressive win. Unfortunately for Texas, I think its upset against Alabama made Vanderbilt lock in for this game rather than look ahead to the Dores' matchup against Florida.
The backcourt shotmaking from both teams is something I'm excited to watch, but I think Vanderbilt's defense will make things very tough on Pope and force the supporting cast to be the ones to step up if Texas wants to win this game.
Pope has made me eat my words before, but I think Tanner and Miles will be too much to handle for Pope and Texas' guards on both ends of the floor.
Vanderbilt will make a statement on the road.
My Pick: Vanderbilt -5.5 (Play to -7.5)
