Wofford vs Tennessee College Basketball Preview

The Terriers have just four returning players from a season ago, two of whom were starters in 2025-26 (Chace Watley and Brian Sumpter). Those two should once again make a significant impact on this Wofford team.

Head coach Kevin Giltner also brought in notable Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year Jacob Daniels from the Division II level. The guard should provide some much-needed depth to this roster after averaging nearly 14 points and dishing out six assists per game last season.

The Terriers should be firmly in the mix for the Southern Conference crown this season. Most projections have them finishing in the top three, behind East Tennessee State and Furman.

Wofford should be one of the more fun mid-major programs to watch this season.

It won't be swept under the rug that this Tennessee team got its rear end demolished by Duke in an exhibition, losing 103-63 on Oct. 20. The Volunteers shot 33.9% from the floor and 22.2% from deep.

We are nowhere near March, and Rick Barnes' team already has this writer a bit worried.

However, the Vols should be fine against this Wofford team.

But what about when they face another top opponent? Barnes' teams are known for being elite defensively, but the offense has struggled at times over the years.

That's why Tennessee went out and got Juke Harris. The former Wake Forest guard averaged 21.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 33% from deep a season ago. Harris could easily be the high-level scorer this program has needed over the last few seasons.

Barnes returned just two players from last season's roster, DeWayne Brown II and Troy Henderson, neither of whom made much of an impact.

However, this team has added plenty of offensive firepower that could finally get the program to where the hype has suggested it belongs for years.

Wofford vs. Tennessee Pick, Betting Analysis

Despite the concerns surrounding Tennessee's loss to Duke in its exhibition game, Barnes has added plenty of offensive talent to this roster that should pop off against a team ranked more than 240 spots below the Volunteers.

There are some concerns about these newcomers being defensive liabilities, but with Barnes at the helm, it would be baffling not to see major improvements on that side of the ball from the newbies.

With questions surrounding the defense and just how good this offense can be, I don't love the under as much as I normally would in a Tennessee game.

However, this line is too low. The Volunteers should annihilate the Terriers.

Pick: Tennessee -27.5
