Bad #, but Illinois is living on borrowed time. There’s no reason this should be a top 10 team. Yes, they beat Duke 45-19, but that score was a poor reflection of the game itself. Duke dominated in the trenches and only lost because they shot themselves in the foot all night. Indiana won’t let Illinois off the hook. The Hoosiers will win this battle up front. Their offensive line is elite. This unit is a top five unit nationally, especially in pass protection. Illinois defensive line simply isn’t good enough for a team ranked this high. Their front seven sits just 37th in the country. Indiana’s O-line will control this game and give Fernando Mendoza all the time he needs. Speaking of Mendoza, I loved him at Cal. Landing him through the portal was a brilliant move. He’s legit, and he’s made this offense look flat out dominant. Indiana is averaging 52 points per game through three contests. Sure, you can question the strength of schedule, but they’ve handled everyone in front of them with ease. Defensively, they’re just as strong. Indiana boasts a top 15 front seven and gets to face an Illinois offensive line ranked outside the top 45. The Hoosiers pass rush should control the line of scrimmage. Against Duke, Illinois managed just 0.02 expected points per rush attempt, with only 15 successful runs on 38 tries. This offense has no rhythm, and I think they’re in real trouble today. I’m very high on Indiana this season and ready to sell on Illinois. My ratings have Indiana as the 14th best team in the nation and Illinois at 21st, despite what the AP poll says. Indiana went 8-0 at home last season and are a better team this season. I think the Hoosiers will win by more than a touchdown.
