Boston College vs Cincinnati Preview
Boston College Eagles
Following an atrocious 2025 campaign that left Boston College with a 2-10 overall record, Eagles head coach Bill O’Brien had quite the active offseason.
O’Brien will take over as direct offensive coordinator, following the departure of several members of the offensive coaching staff.
Boston College was also intent on making changes to its defensive coaching staff this past offseason, bringing in former South Florida DC Ted Roof to overhaul a defense that lost the majority of its core over the last couple of seasons.
In addition to vast changes to BC’s coaching staff, O’Brien landed 26 players in the transfer portal whilst also bringing in a freshman class of 23 players.
While the longtime NFL coach successfully transformed both the roster and coaching staff from top to bottom, I am still relatively concerned about its QB play, with redshirt junior Mason McKenzie set to line up under center after transferring from Saginaw Valley State.
I am more optimistic given O’Brien’s vast offensive coaching experience.
Unfortunately, the Eagles will be without top receiving option Kaelan Chudzinski in 2026 after having suffered a season-ending injury.
True freshman WR DJ Biggins has impressed in camp and will likely play a very large role in the Eagles’ passing game in 2026. Reports indicate that Boston College RB Bo MacCormack III has put on a ton of size and will lead the Eagles' rushing attack.
Cincinnati Bearcats
It has been a whirlwind for Cincinnati over the last five years, highlighted by frequent highs and lows. In 2021, Cincy made history as the first American Athletic Conference team to earn a College Football Playoff berth.
Now, the Bearcats find themselves in the Big 12 with far more difficult competition.
Following a phenomenal 2025 season that led to HC Scott Satterfield’s bunch reaching the Big 12 Championship Game, Cincinnati now enters 2026 facing far more challenges, including a very difficult conference schedule.
Satterfield’s 2025 roster possessed one of the best offensive lines in all of college football, with that unit allowing just eight sacks throughout the entire season, led by LT Joe Cotton.
Fortunately for the Bearcats' offensive line, three of the five will be returning this season, with veteran Taran Tyo set to replace Gavin Gerhardt, who was selected in April's NFL draft.
JC French IV was a huge addition in the offseason to start at QB for Cincinnati this season in order to replace Brendan Sorsby’s 2025 production.
French IV was phenomenal at Georgia Southern, with the 22-year-old shattering the program’s passing yardage record in just two seasons under center.
The Bearcats’ 2025 three-headed monster has since gone as well, with several youngsters set to see some reps out of Cincinnati’s backfield this season, namely Zion Johnson, who will most definitely be RB1.
Satterfield’s offense has returned just three of its eight receiving targets as well, which merely adds more and more uncertainty surrounding the Bearcats’ offense.
First-year defensive coordinator Nate Woody will likely implement his traditional 3-4 scheme, which could be somewhat of an adjustment from last year’s 3-3-5 formation.
The Bearcats’ defense will also feature an entirely different lineup from last season, with Woody landing numerous transfers from the portal.

Boston College vs Cincinnati Pick, Betting Analysis
In a game featuring two teams entering their respective 2026 campaigns with extremely new-look rosters on both sides of the football, it makes for a very difficult handicap.
While I do feel the Bearcats are the better team, the drastic changes to both their offense and defense have given me cause for concern.
Though I do expect Cincinnati to prevail in a closely contested matchup, I think 7.5 is too high for two teams that will need to settle into completely new-look rosters and schemes.
I favor backing the Eagles getting 7.5 points in a game that could very well go down to the wire.
Pick: Boston College +7.5
