Liberty Betting Stats & 2019 Season Profile

  • Season Record: 7-5
  • Against-the-Spread Record: 5-4-1
  • Conference: Independent
  • Offense Yards Per Play Rank: 18
  • Defense Yards Per Play Rank: 86
  • S&P+ Special Teams Rank: 68

Analysis: They didn’t play the toughest schedule, but the Flames still got to seven wins on the year to become bowl eligible for the first time in school history, and they put up some pretty impressive individual numbers, too. Quarterback Stephen Calvert threw for 3,393 yards on the year — good for ninth in the nation — and wideout Antonio Gandy-Golden hauled in 1,333 of them — the third-highest mark in the country. As a result, they were a bit more impressive on the offensive side of the ball. Liberty averaged 6.82 yards per play (18th in the country) and had the 54th-ranked offense (SP+), while the 100th-ranked defense gave up 5.89 yards per play (80th). –Danny Donahue

Georgia Southern Betting Stats & 2019 Season Profile

  • Season Record: 7-5
  • Against-the-Spread Record: 5-6-1
  • Conference: Sun Belt
  • Offense Yards Per Play Rank: 98
  • Defense Yards Per Play Rank: 69
  • S&P+ Special Teams Rank: 69

Analysis: Georgia Southern was put to the test — albeit, an unfair one — right away this season with a visit to LSU. The Eagles lost that game, 55-3, and ultimately got off to a 1-3 start as they also had to travel to Minnesota in Week 3. They did rebound nicely, however, winning six of their final eight games, including the highlight of the season: a 24-21 victory over App State — the Mountaineers’ only loss. A defensively-oriented team, Georgia Southern ranked behind only App State and Louisiana-Lafayette in yards allowed per play in the Sun Belt, but was No. 8 of the 10 teams in the conference in the same category on the other side of the ball. –Danny Donahue
