Florida Atlantic vs Maryland Pick, Betting Analysis
This game fits one of our Action Labs PRO betting systems, powered by Evan Abrams.
In college football, high posted totals often attract a surge of public action on the Over, especially when casual bettors anticipate a shootout.
When the closing number sits in the upper range and public money heavily favors points, oddsmakers tend to inflate the line to balance action.
This creates value on the Under, as actual game flow can be slowed by factors such as defensive adjustments, ball control strategies, and the natural variance in scoring in high-scoring games.
The result is that popular high-total matchups frequently fail to meet the lofty expectations set by the market.
Obviously, the Florida Atlantic game fits the Popular High Unders system.
Behind head coach/offensive coordinator Zach Kittley and quarterback Caden Veltkamp — who transferred in together from Western Kentucky — the Owls should score plenty this season.
Meanwhile, the Owls’ defense could be entirely incompetent, especially early in the season.
That said, I’m not overly confident in Maryland’s offense in the post-Taulia Tagovailoa world. New starting quarterback Malik Washington is a big-time high school recruit, but he’s also a first-year starter making his first-ever collegiate start with a new offensive coordinator (Pep Hamilton from the NFL ranks).
I’m not particularly high on Maryland’s defense, either. Regardless, I suspect this total is way overinflated and will ride or die with our long-term, profitable betting system.
Pick: Under 61.5 (-115, BetMGM)
