Nebraska vs Maryland Preview

Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview: Secondary Key to Success
Nebraska earned a 38-27 victory over Michigan State in Week 6, pushing Matt Rhule’s Cornhuskers to 4-1 overall on the season.
At first glance, it's been a strong start for Nebraska and Dylan Raiola, and the Huskers appear to be turning the corner as a program.
Nebraska’s success starts with their secondary — the Cornhuskers lead the country in pass defense, allowing just 92 yards per game. In last week’s win over Michigan State, they held the dynamic Aidan Chiles to just 9-of-23 through the air for 85 yards.
As good as the Huskers' defense has been, it's also been opportunistic. Turnover margin is a huge part of what Nebraska has done well thus far this year, forcing three times as many turnovers (nine) as it has committed on offense (three).
Against the Spartans last week, that 3:1 turnover ratio was much needed, as Michigan State actually took a seven-point lead late in the third quarter before Nebraska stormed ahead late.
When the Cornhuskers are on offense themselves, they lean on the big arm of their star quarterback Raiola. He's completing a stellar 74% of his pass attempts through five games, and he's thrown 12 touchdowns to just two interceptions.
Anytime Raiola has a clean pocket, he can pick defenses apart. One development to watch — Raiola has thrown an interception in both of Nebraska’s last two games after avoiding them entirely in the Huskers' first three wins of the season.

Maryland Terrapins Betting Preview: Malik Washington Showing Out
Maryland has been a pleasant surprise this season, opening the year 4-0 with a surprising 17-point victory over Wisconsin in Madison before last week’s loss to Washington.
Against the Huskies in Week 6, Maryland led 20-0 midway through the third quarter before imploding and allowing 24 unanswered points to Washington in the final 20 minutes en route to the Terps' first loss of the season.
Which version of the Terrapins is the real version — the one that dominated Washington for 40 minutes or the version that fell apart in the fourth quarter? It’s hard to say.
One thing is for certain — Maryland has a starting quarterback of its own that belongs in the same category as Raiola. Freshman Malik Washington has thrown for 1,257 yards through five games, while taking just one sack along the way.
Washington has been stellar at limiting mistakes; he's thrown just two interceptions on the year thus far.
They put a lot on Washington’s shoulders, and for good reason. The Maryland rushing attack is totally nonexistent. As a team, the Terps are totaling just 3.3 yards per carry. Maryland has yet to record a single 20-yard run this season.
Because of this, Maryland rarely wins the time of possession battle.
The Terps need to extend some drives and frustrate Nebraska in this game by keeping Raiola off the field. But that's easier said than done.

Nebraska vs Maryland Pick, Betting Analysis
These two teams are more similar than it may appear at first glance. Both rely heavily on their star quarterbacks, both run into issues with a lack of success on the ground and both are at their best when they win the turnover battle.
Washington isn’t as mistake-prone as some of the other quarterbacks Nebraska has forced into bad situations. At home, the Terrapins can trust him to avoid negative plays and keep the Terps in this game.
While Nebraska’s 4-1 record feels like a leap forward, it may be a bit misleading in the long run. Nebraska is 0-3 against the spread against power-conference opponents this year.
Back the Terrapins to cover.
Pick: Maryland +6.5
