Looks like I missed the boat on the best of the number, but this is clearly movement reflecting that Devin Farrell is unlikely to play. With him out of the lineup, I also wonder how much they will throw to the star receiver. Offense could look really bad here against temple. This game means nothing to Rhode Island regarding FCS perception so I could see them folding the tent quickly, especially if it does not start out right This will close higher.

Temple Owls Odds & Betting Guide — 2026-27 Season

Temple came within a whisker of ending a long bowl drought in K.C. Keeler's first season. The Owls went 5-7 and 3-5 in the American, a real improvement after four straight 3-9 seasons, and reached five wins with a legitimate shot at bowl eligibility before dropping their final four games, including two decided by a single point, to fall short. Keeler, who won FCS national titles at Delaware and Sam Houston State before arriving in Philadelphia, has a specific track record worth noting: in his second season at each of his last three head coaching stops, Rowan, Delaware, and Sam Houston, he went a combined 32-8. Most college football power ratings still have Temple in the lower half of the American, but that history is a meaningful reason for optimism.

Both coordinators return for a second season, offensive coordinator Tyler Walker and defensive coordinator Brian Smith, giving Temple full staff continuity for the first time in years. The defense brings back seven starters from a unit that took excellent care of the ball, including safety Avery Powell, who forced three fumble recoveries and an interception in 2025.

The offense's biggest question is at quarterback, following the graduation of Evan Simon, who set the program's single-season passing touchdown record. Penn State transfer Jaxon Smolik is competing for the job against Sheppard, a Temple player with very limited game experience, and how quickly that position stabilizes may determine whether the Owls finally reach their first bowl game since 2019.

Temple & the American Conference

The American Conference held its full 14-team lineup for 2026, so the teams Temple competed against in 2025 are the same ones on this year's schedule. Temple's path to six wins looks favorable on paper: the Owls play seven games at Lincoln Financial Field, including home dates against three of the conference's weaker teams, Charlotte, UAB, and Rice.

The tougher road trips, to East Carolina, Navy, Memphis, and a game at South Florida against a team that brought in the American's top transfer class, are concentrated later in the schedule. Non-conference play adds Penn State, FCS Rhode Island, Toledo, and UConn, with the Toledo and UConn games likely determining whether Temple clears .500 for the season.

Temple 2026 futures odds

Temple's win total sits at 5.5, with the over priced at +100 and the under at -130, reflecting real optimism about a bowl breakthrough. The Owls are priced at +4000 to win the futures market for the American, 11th out of 14 teams in the conference.

If you'd rather trade Temple's outlook than bet a fixed number, Kalshi and Polymarket both list win-total and conference contracts that move with the news. You can find a Kalshi promo code and a Polymarket promo code on our promo pages, and our college football prediction market promos page tracks current offers. For Pennsylvania sports betting, Temple can be wagered on without restriction, though player props on college athletes aren't offered under state rules.

The Temple angle: Keeler's specific year-two track record, a combined 32-8 across his last three stops, is a much more concrete data point than generic "expect improvement in year two" framing. Combined with full staff continuity and seven returning defensive starters, a team that finished 5-7 with two one-point losses last season has real breakout potential this year, even if the win total itself only bumps up modestly.

Betting the Temple moneyline

The moneyline is a bet on the winner, no margin involved. To illustrate: if Temple were priced at +140 against UConn and UConn at -165, converting to implied probability puts Temple around 41.7% and UConn around 62.3%, summing to roughly 104%. That extra few points is the sportsbook's built-in margin, not a signal about which side is more likely to win.

Worth a direct correction here: a short price on a favorite isn't automatically "less value," and a long price on an underdog isn't automatically "more value." Value depends on whether the number matches the true odds of the outcome, not on how the price looks. Uneven juice tells you where money is landing relative to the book's line, not which side is correct.

Compare current odds across books with an odds calculator before betting anything, particularly early in the season while the quarterback job settles. If you're shopping new sportsbook accounts, the FanDuel promo code is one option worth checking, and our college football betting promos page tracks other current offers.

Betting Temple point spreads

The spread sets a margin rather than just a winner. Betting Temple to cover as a favorite, most likely at home against Charlotte, UAB, or Rice, means the Owls need to win by more than the number; betting them as an underdog means they need to either win outright or lose by less than the number.

Temple's late-season collapse in 2025 included two one-point losses, the kind of result that can flip with better quarterback play or a bit of luck. Track that against the ATS standings as the new starter takes over, since close losses from a year ago don't necessarily predict close losses again.

Why the home-heavy schedule matters for Temple spreads: with seven of Temple's games in Philadelphia, including all three of its most winnable conference matchups, spread performance at Lincoln Financial Field could look very different from the tougher stretch of true road games later in the year. Be cautious drawing conclusions from either sample in isolation. Check our projections as the season develops.

If you're comparing odds formats across books or exchanges while tracking Temple through the season, the prediction markets odds converter is a quick way to translate between American, decimal, and share-price formats.

Betting the Temple total

The total, or over/under, is a bet on the combined score rather than the winner. Temple's defense returns seven starters and was strong at forcing turnovers a year ago, which could keep totals lower even while a new quarterback finds his footing on offense.

Check betting splits to see where public money is landing on Temple totals, and our expert picks break down specific total calls each week as the new starting quarterback settles in.

Temple player props

Player props are limited in college football, and Pennsylvania specifically bans player props on college athletes, so bettors in the state won't find those markets on Temple or its opponents through licensed operators regardless of where a game is played.

Where player props aren't available, game-level markets like first-half winner or team total remain a way to get exposure to a Temple game without needing a settled read on the new quarterback competition.
