TCU Horned Frogs Betting Preview: Hoover to Shine for Frogs

The Horned Frogs need to get up off the deck after dropping their last two games and putting up a total of 30 points.

To put their struggles into perspective, this is a team that averages 29.4 points per game and hasn't put up less than 20 points in a game all season.

After doing so in two straight weeks, a breakout is on the way, and quarterback Josh Hoover should rise to the occasion. Hoover has led an uptempo passing attack that has him 37th in pass attempts per game and passing yards per game.

The Horned Frogs offense is a unique test for a Houston defense that has been walking a fine line against Big 12 opposition.

We saw Texas Tech torch this Houston team through the air back in October, and this TCU passing attack is the best the Cougars will have seen since then.

Houston Cougars Betting Preview: Coogs To Be Tamed on Offense

As mentioned above, the Cougars are 8-2, but four of their wins have come by one possession.

Their defense has found a way to do just enough on multiple occasions, and they may not be able to pick up enough for the struggles that the offense is set to have this week.

Houston is a team that keeps the ball on the ground at the 27th-highest rate in the country. It has done so with moderate success, ranking 86th in yards per rush.

However, the Cougars are set to face a TCU defense that has been stout against the run, ranking 18th in yards per rush allowed. The additional wrinkle to the offense has been the big plays from the arm of Conner Weigman, set up by the run game.

Although, the Horned Frogs may have an answer there as well. TCU ranks 47th in opponent completion percentage. This appears to be the matchup where we see Houston's offense take a step back.

TCU vs Houston Pick, Betting Analysis

This line is tight, and the market has come in support of the Horned Frogs. While they're on the road, they're in a far better spot to succeed.

Look for TCU to shut down the Cougars' run game, stifling their offense. Meanwhile, Hoover and company will keep the chains moving against a relatively untested Houston defense.

These two things will be apparent early. Back the Horned Frogs to be leading at halftime.

Pick: TCU 1H ML +100 (Play to -110)
