This Saturday, No. 6 Alabama travels to Knoxville to take on No. 14 Tennessee in a high-stakes SEC showdown at Neyland Stadium. Both teams enter at 5–1 overall, but Alabama is the -7.5 points favorite seeking a bounce-back victory following a 20–17 loss to Georgia. On the other hand, Tennessee aims to build momentum after back-to-back conference wins over Auburn and Arkansas.

This is a classic rivalry, and when history is on the line, anything can happen.

Here’s my Alabama vs. Tennessee prediction and college football pick for Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Alabama vs Tennessee Prediction

Kalshi traders are heavily leaning toward Alabama, with the Crimson Tide trading as a strong 74% favorite, primarily driven by their strong recent form and a dominant head-to-head record against their rival on Saturday.

While I agree with the favorable trend toward Alabama and think backing the favorite on the moneyline makes sense, I believe the -7.5 spread is a complete exaggeration that may be getting overhyped by traders.

Backing Tennessee to cover +6.5or even +5.5 on the spread looks like the strongest play in this game. The Volunteers boast an elite defensive unit allowing just 15.5 points per game and possess the front seven necessary to neutralize Alabama’s ground attack.

The total has seen one of the week's most aggressive sharp moves, crashing from an opening 56.5 down to 51.5 points. With Tennessee’s last four contests all going Under, combined with both teams relying on aggressive defensive fronts, taking the Under 51.5 stands out as the best bet here.

  • Alabama vs. Tennessee Pick: Tennessee +6.5 on the spread, Under 51.5 on totals

Alabama Crimson Tide Preview: Looking for a Statement Win

The Alabama Crimson Tide enters this clash with a 5–1 overall record and a 3–1 mark in SEC play following a crucial stretch of conference games. Head coach Kalen DeBoer's squad will look to extend that momentum on the road and maintain their standing near the top of the conference race.

Alabama kicked off the season with four consecutive victories, defeating East Carolina 48–10, Kentucky 45–17, Florida State 50–36, and South Carolina 49–18. They followed that up with a dominant 56–23 road victory against Mississippi State in early October. However, the Crimson Tide are seeking an immediate bounce-back performance after suffering their first setback of the year with the Georgia Bulldogs at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Alabama's offense is led by quarterback Keelon Russell, who has orchestrated an explosive passing attack through the first six games of the season. Russell has completed 110 of 162 pass attempts for 1,599 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and only two interceptions, while also contributing 225 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

His primary downfield target is star wide receiver Ryan Williams, who leads the receiving core with 23 receptions for 415 yards and four touchdowns. They are supported by dynamic playmakers Lotzeir Brooks and Rico Scott, alongside tight end Marshall Pritchett.

As they prepare for their upcoming trip to Neyland Stadium, the Crimson Tide renew one of college football's most storied rivalries in the 109th meeting of the Third Saturday in October. Alabama holds an all-time lead of 61–39–8 in the historic series against Tennessee, which includes a 37–20 victory over the Volunteers during their last meeting in 2025.

Tennessee Volunteers Preview: Looking to Reverse History

Tennessee enters their Third Saturday in October showdown with a 5–1 overall record after navigating a demanding early-season slate.

The Volunteers sprinted out to an undefeated start through non-conference play, dominating Furman, earning a solid road victory at Georgia Tech, and powering past Kennesaw State.

In SEC play, the Volunteers faced a tough setback against top-ranked Texas in late September, but Josh Heupel's squad responded impressively by winning two straight conference matchups. It's a resilient team that is managing to survive a truly difficult slate of games.

Tennessee’s pass rush, ranked among the nation's best with 25 sacks, will pose a massive test for Alabama's pass protection, forcing Keelon Russell to operate under constant pressure. On the other hand, Alabama's defense will likely stack the box to contain Volunteers running back DeSean Bishop, daring Tennessee's young quarterbacks to beat them over the top.

Defending their home field on Saturday represents a crucial opportunity for the Volunteers to pick up a marquee SEC victory and stay firmly in the race for the conference Championship and the College Football Playoff.

Despite that emotional factor, I believe it is Alabama’s game to lose. It may be a conservative play, but backing the Crimson Tide on the moneyline remains the most solid position this Saturday.
